Hey Dan,

Got them pistons figured out. Do ya think ill be too high on Compression? and I have read the thicker head gasket that felpro 5335 is not one to have due to failures on higher compression engines. What would you do?

Thanks

if thesmall dome just cancels out the cc's of the valve reliefs, you should be at 10.6-1 c/r
with the right cam and timing curve you should be able to run on pump gas without any problem.

I think you are thinking Fel-Pro 8553PT

It comes in the regular old Fel-Pro gasket kit.

I've run them on 13.1:1 +.030" 340 without issues.

.054" thick, 12.13 cc gasket volume.

1008 gasket is better suited to aluminum heads though.

You know the piston is going to weigh more than the rod, don't you?

That's not even counting the wrist pin you could knock a bull down with.

Oh I know, Im just using what we have. and its gonna run fine. Pluss its a stick car so Its gonna have plenty or "mass" for torque LOL

a better idea would be to send the heads back and get the "closed" chamber modell and then mill the pistons to get 0 deck height.
That way if you want to build anything else in the future it will be easy to get pistons witch is not the case with the your heads.

he already has the closed chamber heads, not the open chamber.

Then the pistons wont fit.
They go above the deck.

Re: Sealed Power 2332P and TRW L2316F pistons for Mopar 340 engines.

I just took the time to measure the valve relief volume (including the centering hole) in these pistons. This value is 5.1 cc.
Next I measured and calculated the volume of the dome at 0.018” deck height above the block, allowing for the chamfer at the edge, volume = 3.464 cc
The net volume of the valve relief is 1.636cc.
So, the net of the dome and valve relief is the equivalent of a full flat top piston with a deck height of 0.008” down the hole, for calculation purposes.
With a combustion chamber volume of 72 cc and a standard Fel Pro compostion gasket thickness of 0.039”, the actual top of the piston at 0.018” above the block. the C.R. is 9.604:1.
This should work fine with premium pump gas.
The 340 I'm doing right now is for a restoration engine, built to factory specs as much as possible.

Hopefully you end up getting zero deck w/those pistons which would be great since the fel-pro's are close to .040 thick and w/closed chambers it will have perfect quench

Yes they are clunkers, but I had those in my 340. Ran it to 7200 many times with stock rods. Never had an issue with them and mine were .060 over.

Clunkers you say ? ... spinning em UP to 7200 eek ... gotta admit that they aren’t a Diamond piece ... but give those 2315s A BREAK !

A story about the L2315Fs .. years ago .... anyone remember Buckeye Sales ? ... my GRANDFATHER told me this story smoke

He was buying from BUGeye at jobber price and WD on others. The sales guy calls HIM up and gives him a SUPER DEAL on several lines but especially TRW .....

HE bought A TON of pistons ! and most of those were the 2315s ....

If HIS memory serves ... something like 7 beans EACH !

The TRW L2316Fs I had were very thick at the top, about 1/2". You could mill them down to a 0 deck height. You could mill out the bottom of the tops and take some weight off them as well.

Very thick and heavy piston. I machined a wide path thru the center of the dome for better flame travel and rebuilt the engine with these pistons. I sold the engine to build my past 408, so don't know the out come. The 340 wanted 38* timing with that big dome in the way.
