Actually Dave Hughes is(was) a Chevy guy. Folks in the area quit using his stuff because of his attitude and frankly, some of the worst machine work in the 309 area code. He saw an opportunity to involve himself in the MoPar stuff and did. You are correct in saying that to him you are a customer and that is all. I cannot believe people still support his business. No one in the immediate area does, thats for sure.

Well, First it was chevys. Now Mopars, Whats next for him....Fords????

It’s unfortunate that Mr. Hughes feels compelled to belittle the Moparts message board in general and the Engine Masters participants in particular. To me, calling our members unprofessional and amateurs with “cute names” illustrates that he doesn’t take his clientele (the Mopar community) too seriously.

Hughes had better expand their line of cams to include some “Brand X” grinds because I have a feeling they’ll be experiencing a decline in sales of Mopar parts.

By the way Dave, next time you get the urge to post a little tirade on your website, it would be wise to find someone with basic knowledge of the English language to proofread it for you.

What a jerk! I'm passing this thread on to some other non-Mopar "amateur" sites..

This is really a shame. I have a Hughes cam installed in my 440. I have never felt a cam better than the one installed. It pulls hard from 2000 and seems to kick you in the back at 4500 all the way past 6000, I give up before the cam does.

I have talked to him on the phone and he seemed to be ok. But now, I guess I'll be looking for a new cam supplier.

Oh well, it's hard to be an A-Hole and keep customers.

Wow,

I just got done reading ALL 8 pages of this travesty, and although there is no real need for me to post, I still feel the need to lend my support to my brothers and sisters here...

I have a friend who works in the auto parts business, and yes he does complain when people call him for help fixing thier car with parts they did not buy from them, but he still helps best he can because he knows that if they get good help, he might get them as customers as long as he is close on price.

Ever heard of the Golden rule? He who has the gold, makes the rules? It sounds like Dave thinks he owns all the gold...

Who's paypal do I need to donate to in order to help get that motor back on the dyno?

Um........ok. I guess that's what you call financial suicide ????? I was seriously considering one of his ported/modified beer barrel intakes (or two) for the ram and belvedere, but now I'm going to think a little harder........Ok, A LOT harder !! Bummer too, as his product(intake)seemed to be the nicest available.

As someone who runs his own business, Dave's attitude is unbelievable to me.

JohnRR, I'd like to see what the EM engine is capable of, if you will pm me your address I'll contribute some $$ towards getting it going.

I feel that the bad feeling toward Dave have nothing to do with his product. As many have stated, his attitude even before this letter was poor. This just provides proof that Dave may not be the nicest guy around. One thing that I have noticed about Mopar Guys is that we are like orchids. We need a little more attention than those Dandelion chevy guys. To post like Dave did is like spraying us with Round Up.

I too agree that the letter could have been an educational and informative post about lifter bores. His continued use of "student" and "amateur" shows that he had no respect for the talent at hand.

I was planning to buy a set of the bulldogs from Dave. That won't happen.

I too will continue my support of the EM 470. John, let me know what else can do.

Mike

The Hughe's stickers come off the car and the engine comes out. The other engine has a Comp cam and during the rebuild of the 1st engine the Hughe's cam comes out! It is not the product, it's Dave and the attitude! No support from me. Another way he should be looking at all this is that there are 6,000 members and they must have about 30,000 friends. Word of mouth is good for a business and can be bad for a business too.

For those of you who are wanting to dispose of his used cam's, please send a big block solid cam with approx. .550+ lift my way.
BTW, he is a A$$ but I would still run one of his cams.

Count me in on the contributions to fixing the EM-470...maybe one of the rags would be interested in doing a story about the teardown, rebuild, and subsequent dyno flog with the cam change.

I like the way this is heading.

Get it together again, get a Comp cam from Dwayne....
then head back to they dyno and
GIVE BABY HUEY A 'PANKIN'

When it's done, assuming the engine does indeed make more HP, set it up so if someone does a search for Hughes the dyno results page comes up. Surely somebody here must know how to set it up with search engines to where it would come up close to the top.

Wish I had tons of knowledge and/or money to contribute, but I have neither. If I had either one, I wouldn't ask so many dumb questions. I wish you guys luck though.

Comp cams seems more than willing to help know-nothing Ameteurs with cute names. My kind of company.

heres a little thought that occured to me....

isnt it ironic that he(Dave Hughes) is so insistant about how unprofessional our efforts were to field an entry for the EM challenge.

IMO, his putting a commentary like that on his website is about as unprofessional as it gets.

Eberg lives over there on the East Coast. Invite him over for the dyno flog when you get the EM470 back up and running. He might find this whole tale interesting. Besides, it is a killer engine and he digs that stuff.

Posting a public rant like they did on there website has got to be one of the most infantile and childish things I've seen in a long time. I cant believe they would right a friggin essay on boo hoo it's all the amatuers fault were perfect. I was thinking of getting the 440 built and stopped by some local speed shops for their machine shop pricing lists. So far the 2 machine shop lists of services are 3 pages and 2 pages and neither one lists anything about checking lifter bore, I for one have never heard of checking lifter bore. Their time would have been better spent writing an essay of helpful knowlege and educating people rather then bashing the 90% of the people that make up the hobby(amatuers). I for one would never buy from people with such crappy attitudes as these, nor will I ever recomend dealing with the to anyone else.
Comp Cams gets all my recomendations now.

71sat...I always check the lifter bores...hone and fit each lifter..(most guys who know there stuff will at least run a ball hone through the bores..it's a piece of mind thing)
but I'm big on lifter indexing anyway
