We are trying to remove the roll pin that fastens the steering lock plate in place on the steering shaft. The manual says not to try and knock it out with a punch (I can see why because there is nothing to brace it against). The manual calls for steering shaft to lock pin plate tool. special tool number C-4113.
Where can we find this tool?

I have used a punch to knock the pin out (and re-install it)on more than 30 cars without a problem.

These are the folks that made all or most of the Mopar specific tools, yours isn't listed.

It'll come out with a punch, but it has to be a roll pin punch. Looks like these:

The shaft is still in the the car. The manual says not to use a punch. I am thinking that this is because if you tap it the shaft just wiggles (not rigedly held) and perhaps stresses the other end of it. Did you have the shaft out of the car when you punched it out?

Thanks,
Rebecca

thanks for the pic. my punches look different. I guess they are not roll pin punches. I will get some and then ponder some more about whether I should try and tap it out with the shaft still in the car (unbraced - kind of hard to tap it).

Really isn't an issue. With everything in place it can be tough to access. Some punches are hex shaped and I've found a socket to fit it and used an extension, worked fine. When hitting you will be applying some forces to the input shaft of the steering gear but the pin should move easily enough without causing any damage. Like said already, done a number of times with no problems. Good luck.

Sounds like we found the solution. Thanks so much. I will look for a proper set of roll pin punches this weekend. Our ultimate goal is to replace the fried ignition switch.
