Does 80" sound right for the length of a speedometer cable for a '73 4-door Dart? That's the only lemgth I've been able to locate.
Thanks!

The original cable from my 67 Barracuda (273/904) was 60"... just measured it yesterday. I remember seeing several cables while looking through the catalog Tuesday down at the parts store, but I don't remember if any were less than 80". Might be worth a trip to the parts store and asking to see their Pioneer catalog that has all the cables. You can look up the exact application you need, and then compare ends on different length applications. FWIW, 80" will work, but you have to work on keeping it up tight to the body and not touching the exhaust a bit.

I guess the later A's MIGHT have been different, but I'd bet they are the same. 62" is essentially the same as the 60 I measured, because I didn't try to get ALL the curves out of the cable. I just got it as straight as I could, so it's close, not exact. It also has different ends on it than the later cars with a clip-on end on the speedo side.

How does one go about making their own cables? I need a custom cable for a project I'm working on, and fabbing it myself would be nice.

This car is a '73 and has the clip-on connector at the speedo. Could they have been longer? I am thinking about buying and cutting the new cable to fit. My old inner cable (the actual cable itself) is fine, but the old clip-on connector is cracked in half. Can I cut this and use my original inner cable? I guess it would be a matter of removing the new connector and cutting the outer cable housing. Make sense?

I just bought a longer cable that had the right ends and then picked up a cheapo kit from the parts store that has the inner spring cable part and crimp on ends. The housing can be disassembled easily and shortened, then match the new cable to length and crimp on the end. All in all it was like 30 dollars from the parts store.

The NAPA cable fit perfectly with just a few inches to spare. Seems 68" is right for early 70's A bodies.

Man, I searched all over for Dorman products but their web site didn't come up on any of the first 5 pages of Google... lo and behold, it's dormanproducts.com... I think I need to make a trip down to Poop Boyeez or AZ to see if they have the kit listed in their catalogs. Plenty of stock A-body stuff available, though. I'll shoot you a PM with what I'm looking at doing. Well, what Buschi340 and I are looking at, that is.
