Well, I'm not normally one for making a ton of posts but, here it goes. So, a while back I traded my 79 LRE for this car and I am happy. It's a 68 Dodge Coronet 440 with a 318/904 and 8 3/4 rear with 2.76 gears. The previous owner ran a 15.2 @ 92 mph in the 1/4 mile with the current setup which I hope to improve without spending a ton of money as this car is serving as mostly as a cruiser. So, here it is as I took delivery.

Here's the story on the car. It was ordered by a gentleman (now deceased) in Madison, Maine. It was delivered to the local dealership in May of 1968. I have the Certicard for the card. He used for about four or five years as a daily driver racking up about 80k miles or so by 1972. Then went to another owner or maybe a few owners.

Basically, the car went through an owner or two during the 70s and the car receieved the repaint and "Slot Mags" during that time. In talking with a previous owner what I can gather on the car is that during this time the car had remained up Maine. One of the owners also owned a 69 Road Runner but, unfournately that owner passed on leaving the Coronet and 69 Road Runner to his wife and two daughters.

They had a choice to get rid one of the cars and since the young daughters at the time had memories of the Road Runner and dad. They decided to sell the Coronet even though the Coronet was in better shape than the Plymouth.

For an undisclosed amount of time the Coronet set around hidden in some bushes with weeds starting to grow up around the car. Written on a piece of cardboard was "For Sale $3500" stuck to the front windshield. A gentleman noticed the grille from behind the bushes driving around one day and stopped to take a look. A call was given to the number listed and a price of $2500 was agreed upon. This was in the early 1990 or so.

The new owner drove it to the gas station and while fueling up, he noticed the fuel tank was leaking so in went in a new fuel tank and sending unit. He bought the car to be a daily driver during the warmer months and the car still retained it's original 318 2bbl and single exhaust this time. His wife also daily drove the car as well.

Anyways, he found the car needed the suspension rebuilt so he rebuilt the whole suspension using PST parts and added a rear sway bar along with new leaf springs. Drove it some more a while and his comment was "This things drives and rides as good as my 99 Ford Expedition" and so the miles racked up.

At some point around 2005 and 2006 the car changed hands again but, that's only because the previous owner fell upon harder times and family priorities and so the car parted ways to a Moparts member in Maine.

Here's some pictures as he took posession of the car. Note the mudflaps lol.

Everyones favorite engine or according the "Moparts" family a "boat anchor" lol. At this point I am assuming it has around 170k miles or so.

So, the new owner decided on a budget to take things a little further. He started by taking out some of the old interior and installing new seat covers and a few other things to make the car a little more nicer on the inside. I still need to get arm rests for the doors and get the new bases installed.

Along with the interior; the little 318 recieved some improvements. It recieved headers, an aluminum intake; new timing set, camshaft plus lifters, new carburetor, dual exhaust, and electronic ignition.

Then things started to change and the owner decided to sell to finish up other projects he had around at the time. So, the car went up for sale somewhere around 2007 and went west to Wisconsin from Maine. The car was driven and nothing done in the way of modifications although it escaped the 383 transplant twice.

Then the car came to me around December of 2009 and so far I have order wheels/tires and changed the exhaust. Fixed some leaks and fixed some other stuff so far but, I'll go into detail about that later once I get pictures. For now I did try to clean it up and here is how it turned out so far. Take note I did get a vintage 68 South Dakota plate and it had a Maine Inspection sticker from 2006. I ordered a 1971 South Dakota Inspection sticker as I used to visit South Dakota a lot in my North Dakota days and I couldn't get a 1968 inspection sticker and have not found a good image of one.

One more thing... here's a picture of the fendertag. Weird combo that's for sure. I am thinking of painting it SS1 yellow again someday and keeping the blue interior and white vinyl top lol. I guess that still make it better than green on green to some people lol.

Thank you. It will very slow after what I have spent on it recently. May try to post some updates today. What I can say I ordered some Dynomax Welded Ultraflo Mufflers #17513 through Amazon for approx $94 a piece with free shipping. Summit Racing has them for much more for that plus you pay their handling fee on top of that. They are a straight through design and replace the "Summit Turbo" mufflers which I still have but, I like the Dynomaxs better. Just a little update.

So, I have another set of new replacement wheels on the way and since I will be missing the deadline for the rebates on the BFGoodrichs I opted for these instead. 235/60/15s front and 275/60/15s rear. I wanted to try 295/50s on the rear but, was a little scared so I felt comfortable with the 275/60s on it. I'll disclose the wheel choice at a later time depending if everything works out.

Anyways, here's the new shoes in the making. The ones on the car are currently over 6 years old and are almost worn down completely on certain areas of all tires. So, it's time to replace.

Since I'm waiting for the wheels I decided to do some other stuff. One thing I did is to paint the front of the brake drums. I figure this what some people did in the 70s and it looks better than rust and black on it now lol. Looks good with the current setup but, I think it will look good with the new wheels too.

**Note: Please pardon the mess of the slot wheels.**

I have been polishing them out and they looked great but, I have been working on making them look better before I decided to go to 15s.

That is all I'm going to post for now. As you can see the suspension needs to be painted/detailed amongst my list for the car.

Thank you all so far. The wheels are ET IV 14x9s in the back and the fronts are 14x6 Cragars. They are unilug wheels and as much as I like the look I am changing my wheel but, staying vintage look so no worries there. Plus, I am going to 15s.

Added the new wheels and tires today. I like how it drives so far. The wheels are Cragar Eliminator 500 Series wheels. 15x7 with 4.00 bs up front with 235/60/15 Mickey Thompson Sportsman Radials and 15x8 wheels with 4.5 bs out back with 275/60/15s. I also painted my brake drums "Hemi Orange" but, I did a halfway job on painting them just in case they need to be replaced for some odd reason since the age of the brakes is unknown. Just a small update.
