I need to know the diameter of a '72 and older steel crank harmonic balancer?

it should be 7.25 for a factory damper.

Thanks Dan I appreciate it.

Got a timing tape to put on and don't have one off to measure it by.

The cut spot in the balancer is TDC, right?

The engine is in the car and I got it up on number one as best I could tell and the cut was close.

It's just a .30 over 440 with iron heads.

yes, the cut in it is TDC. clean the damper real good and then apply the tape. you'll want to clear coat it afterward or you'll likely be picking it up off the floor in about 15 seconds after you start the engine.
