I have a friend who has this shredded Engine control. He has a Mod-Jeep and his 84 CJ has a 93 YJ 4.0 motor. His mechanic said that the EC is burned out. If he wanted (which I know I would be doing it) could he cut away that epoxy junk on top, hit it with a hair dryer and melt the rest away, find the burned out components with spares from Digi-Key, and then get it back into service? They want upwards of $75 to service this. But the parts probably cost $1.00...

If he does the service himself, where do we get the epoxy to melt back into the module?

I tried that on one and nothing short of picking the stuff out seemed to work includeing the hair dryer that just made tons of stinky smoke like you wouldn't beleive. I ended up useing a razor blade and exacto knife to remove the majority and tooth picks and finger nails to get it off the components and when I was done I could not find the right parts (alternative parts may have been useable but I don't know that much about electronics to try different pieces). Mine had a problem with charging my battery properly and I ended up getting a computer from a JY for $20.
