I have a 1967 440 I know where the casting number is located, but where is the casting date? I am contemplating selling the engine and would like as much info for perspective buyers as possible. -BD

Side of the block, just like the casting number only smaller numbers. looks just like a calender date, example 6.17.66. On the top machined pad opposite the distributor will be more letters/numbers. Should read C 440 (C = 1967 model year, 440 for cubic inches) and possibly "HP" if it's a High Peformance engine, under that will be a date. That date is the ASSEMBLY date of the engine.

I found it, the casting date was on the passenger side while both sides had the casting number. However there is no date on the ID pad and can someone tell me what those other numbers mean? -BD

The 7-12 is the assembly date (July 12th 1966) the 2 is either the second engine assembled that day or the 2nd shift of production (most likely the assembly sequence).

What you have is a passenger car 440, 1967 model year production engine.

*Hey, I almost nailed the casting date on my earlier guess, Only 3 days off!

I noticed you were only 3 days off, the motor is there for the most part, it's missing the air cleaner housing, carb, valve covers, exhaust manifolds, alternator, starter and I don't know if it had power steering. The motor turns over and has the 915 heads, what is this worth to the right person on average? -BD

440 engines are all over the map price wise, it really depends on who needs one and how badly. They start at around $200.00 for a bare block to a couple grand for a COMPLETE HP engine (all accessories etc.).

If it's running yours would probably bring around $700-$800 on a good day, if it's appart a couple hundred less. It would be a more sellable engine if it were stamped "HP" on the machined pad as guys restoring an original 67 HP car might want it, otherwise it's just another LP 440 core. Original HP exhaust manifolds, HP air cleaner (oval dual snorkel) and you could add a couple hundred to my estimate.
