There is a time and place for everything.
Even street racing.
A couple years back at Back to the 50's in St. Paul , I made one lap against a buddy who needed quieting down.
No cross streets and a good margin between cars and lawn chairs ( We were in front of the Mickey D's on Snelling in Roseville )
When we got back to our seats , a guy came up to my buddy and told him that there was a swap meet the next day if he wanted to replace the doors that just got blown off.
It was a ton of fun.
I am old enough to remember when it was at it's peak on Lake street in Minneapolis and the loop and Layfayette bridge in St. Paul.
Red Rock road ?
Guys used to trailer down there.........picture it.
A mile long straight away with no cross streets.
Northstar steel on one side and rail road tracks on the other that usually had a line of covered hopper cars sided there which made for early luxury boxes.
The Police would let it go until someone got hurt , then clamp down for the rest of the summer.
I never raced there , but used it as my test facility on early Sunday mornings.
Once , a cop did appear just as I was heating them up for my last lap.
He threatened me with about a dozen tickets , but after talking to him a while , it boiled down to the fact that he was pissed about the litter.
There were many thousands of empty beer cans lining the sides of the road.
Once I assured him that they weren't mine , he told me to go home.
He did say that " It's too bad you guys don't have a place to do this around here . "
I told him " I did till you showed up " and he was almost amused.
I say if you are going to do it , at least take a few steps to avoid the headlines.

We have a spot in the middle of the desert where my friend and myself did a street race scene in a movie called "High desert way 420" and guys meet there early in the morning and it`s a blast. I agree about the idiots who litter and I even told some punk kids to pick up their trash and they did.........no biggie. Things can go bad that`s for sure but I havn`t seen it myself although have heard of deaths because of the location and cross streets.......plain stupid in my opinion. Last time we did this the Highway Patroll showed up and just sat on the side of the road till everyone cleared out......no fines or tickets he just made his presence known and we rolled out.

There was an art to street racing back when, where 0ne; you made it safe for you, the other driver and the spectator.
Two; you made and left no tracks in the snow, in other words, don't dump or hump where you play or work if you are talking $treet racing.
Sooner or later, when things really get to conservative and sterile in politics and life, the $street will be back especially as THEY get rid of the legal facilities.

Eventually someone will die driving to the store too..........more people die in sanctioned racing than street racing. Not saying street racing is right/legal but it does exhist and I personally love it although it`s been a while for me.

More people die or are badly injured in Taxi accidents alone, not counting RED light thugs and STOP sign gobblers.
Yeah, these days most people involved on the street are totally blind that they are being watched by BIG TV, BIG BROTHER and BIG NEWS, why make smoke signals to where you at.
Street racing has gotten intensively dangerous now because cars are faster and people are slower in moving and thinking.
I have seen my fair share of horrible accidents at the haunts, but it was almost always because of stupidity and disrespect for logic.
There are more accidents now with air bags and crash bars and all because the factories are making cars with incredible braking power, so people think that they can over extend there luck by speeding more.

I don't know about this video, as to where and such, but they did seem to have a pretty good crowd of spectators...lots of cars in competition...maybe some local tracks could learn a thing or two by watching. Didn't see Big Willy in the video,,but I'm sure his presence was felt!!

If you like drag racing, support your local track.

What a bunch of retards . Street racing meatballs are douchebags no matter what car they drive.

I thank that this annual once a year "street race" is with the local Swedish police indorsements and includes escorting of the participating cars back the the staging area Maybe one of the local participants will chime in later today, its past midnight there now.

Not really... The Police are actually trying to stop it and have tried to come down heavy "American" style on the racers.. but then again this is Sweden, so even the best try only comes out as a joke...

The "problem" the law has over here is that the Police officer must with out a doubt identify the driver during the offence. This makes it hard to really do anything.. For example, in Finland(neighbouring country), if the police see an traffic offence, but cant catch the offender, it does not matter, if the police just id the car license plate, the car owner gets the shake up and pays the fine, even if he/she is innocent... so untill there is a change in the legislation or what ever its called in english, not much the cops can do, if they dont catch you in the act... and it will end up with probably no more than a about 200 dollar fine for a traffic offence...

Isn't that race a street leagal once a year occasion? I've seen other videos on the same stretch of hiway and was under the impression it was a once a year street legal sanction race for the drag racers in Sweden as well as all who showed up. Yes or No as far as legal? I have participated in many legal street races that where put on by one of the local clubs like the Lions. Elks or even a local police officers assocation, maybe Brain (Indio Machine)or his dad remember racing on thr streets of Indio,CA back in 1968 and 1969. Winnemucka(SP?), NV has street legal( time only) racing every August is what I have been told by some of the former participants along with a big car show and criuse, Christmas tree, ET and MPH clocks, fastest street legal car gets a trophy

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

Why would you want to do it on a busy highway? Apparently they have no quiet, low-use areas they can block off isntead of plugging a major thoroughfare? I would be downright pissed if I was late for work because of that!

The one really lame thing with an event like this is you have all these cool cars getting together for some racing, but have nothing to judge your car and your driving ability against other than the guy beside you.

Many Years ago I to street raced, the drag strip was a 220 mile drive one way.
There was about ten guys that would street race out on spruce road. We would spend hours out there on a Saterday night, every one would stay behind the cars exept the starter course and there was no drinking. Now these where 11 and 12 second cars, the biggest thing we had to watch for was deer.
I know street racing is not safe but I sure had alot of fun doing it.
