We are going to look at a 73 Satellite today...Body has been redone..I will crawl underneath it and look for rot. Any thing in particular I shoul pay special attention to? Thanks!! Ted

I'd look closely at the seam where the upper cowl meets the fire wall. Good place for leaves and debris to sit and rot. Also the front frame rail under the battery tray.

Thanks...It was painted 5 years ago...Hasn't moved from the garage since...The guy took the 318 out and replaced it with a 383..The wife wants it....And I really don't need a project car sitting in the garage!

Along with the cowl and battery tray, If it was a vinyl top car, look for signs of the back window leaking, and possible rust either in the trunk or the rear passenger floorboard.

If there is mud in the rear quarters, it's because replacement panels are not available.

Look for rust at the mounting points of the K-Frame. Also check the K-frame at the same point. Road Salt tends to catch there and rust.

Look for rust along the trunk floor edges towards the rear of the trunk.

Also look for rust in the tips of the rear quarters above the bumper and beside the trunk lid. They rust from the inside out so if it isn't rusted dig the seam sealer out and treat it before it does.

Also check the usual spots, bottom of the quarters, Bottom of the front fenders, and inside the cowl.

Check out the rear 1/4's behind the tires. No repro panels available so if it was rusted it was likely repaired with bondo or fiberglass. The cowl area is a good spot to check as well. Also check out the rocker panels, there is a seam going down near the bottom rear corner of the doors, check to see if it's rusted or if the seam was puttied over.
