We just bought this truck and it is missing the passenger side glass. Does anyone know of a glass company that may still be carrying or making these?

The problem is the dakota convertibles did not use the same door glass as all the others. It is a cut glass instead of a full piece of glass like the regular dakota pickups.

Here's an example of a regular dakota:

Here's an example of the dakota convertible glass:

If you look at the passenger and driver side door glass, the convertible uses two separate pieces, kinda like the older mopars. Again, anyone know of any companies that may carry this glass? Thanks in advance.

Have you called around to the local glass companies?

yeah we did. No one even knew these trucks existed. Everyone though it was an aftermarket conversion people were doing. So no one is carrying the glass for this specific truck since the convertible dakotas only made in 89' and 90'.

I have a 1989 4x4 dakota convertible. Before I bought it had the passenger side glass replaced. that was more than ten years ago. The replacement glass has this printed on the lower left side above the door handle.

PPG
SOLEX
HERCULITE
SOLID TEMPERED
SAFETY FLOAT
2 4
AS2 26 0
DOT 18 M27.6

FACTOTY PART NUMBERS ARE FROM 1989 AND MIGHT NOT BE ANY GOOD

Standard 2-door dakota N-body 4352 022-3
Convertible door glass 4549 436-7
Conv.stationary glass 4549 432-3
Rear glass guide 4549 442-3

By the way my user name is ConvX4 I think it is better than the guy I bought the truck from 4XConv. Good luck and PM me If I can help further. Bill

Thanks so much this will definately and hopefully help in finding a replacement.

My dad bought a white one brand new off the showroom floor that was the only white one in all of san antonio. He had lost it in his first divorce and I guess this one came out of Del Rio. He picked it up off the lady for 1000$.

Then we just got back from corpus christi today after picking up a complete 1989 SHELBY edition Dakota for 800$. It'll be interesting rebuilding both of these trucks.

I still have a set of Shelby wheels. No one ever wants to pay anything for them though. I guess the trucks aren't worth much these days, so the wheels don't seem to mean anything to people that buy these trucks. A guy in Haltom City has/had one and just ran the Sport wheels. When they were still available, they were over $300 each from the dealer. The caps aren't available, but were similar to the Dodge minivan caps.

May have to a glass company cut the door regular cab glass. I think I have heard of that happening once or twice. Best bet is to visit www.dakotaconvertible.com and see if anyone has a spare one around.

FOLLOW UP: After spending some time searching around, and even getting a few ridiculous quotes I found a nice couple in Mass. who were able to locate the glass and give me an great price on it too. Half of what other glass finder companies were going to charge. They are called Pro Source and thier number is 877-345-2800. Give them a call if your in need of some vintage or hard to find glass. Thanks everyone for the info in this post. Bob
