I have a 71 non air grabber and it has the shield as it should but there is a notch/ small section cut out of the left front of the air cleaner base just ahead of the sheild almost like it is to allow for clearance of something. Is this correct? How can identify this as an original air cleaner base and lid? Are ther repros being or have been made?

The driver's side "notch" (A/C clearance) was a '90s+ MOPAR PERFORMANCE "reissue".

Thank You! I guess I will be in need of a base to put her back proper. Are original 70 and 71 bases the same?

I thought The notch was to clear the distributor cap and wires.

What is the purpose of the shield with a non air grabber hood?

The shield was also used as part of the N97 "California Noise Reduction" package on cars with N96 "fresh air hoods" (440+6 & HEMI), but its purpose for the other 49-states was to keep fan propelled road debris out of the filter.

Assuming the air grabber sealed around the filter so the debris was not a problem?

in 70 and 71 the air grabber was not mandatory so a car without it would have had the air cleaner with the shield, also keeps the water spray down getting directly on the front of the filter

I thought the shield was to keep the hot air from the rad away from the carb.
