I was trying to search the forum for a topic that was recently on here, but they get shuffled back so quick I couldn't find it, so I hate to ask again.

One guy was asking how to tell if his rocker shafts were facing the right direction, oiling holes and all. My question is for a 318. I remember a few guys saying look for the indentation in the shafts and they need to be facing down on one side or the other. I was confused on what I remember hearing about the direction for the indentations on the shafts to know if I have them on right or not and thought I'd ask again, sorry.....

I just notice a little more valvetrain noise from the top of the motor than what I would think should be there. Thanks again

I remember that thread as I incorrectly posted that BB shafts have notches and they do not (I been on SB's for decades). For your Q the notch goes down on the drivers front and down on the pass rear. guaranteed Is it noisy at all rpms. What weight of oil? When did it start? How many miles?

The best I can describe it to you is it's just noisy, at all RPM's from what I can tell anyway. Motor had a recent rebuild, resused valvetrain components though except cam and lifters, re-ring, new gaskets etc. Just a totally budget rebuild. I know it has a little piston slap from being honed and reusing the stock pistons and reringing. But that goes away after it gets warm, plus I plan on a 440 swap on down the road.

It ptobably has 200 miles on it. I never knew there was a specific position to those shafts. Thought it was just a bolt on and go. Thanks for the info.

Notches on the rocker shaft down and forward on the left (driver)side and down and to the rear on the passenger (right) side of the engine.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!
