I have a 2006 Ram Quad Cab and need to do the rear brakes this weekend. I measured, and the rotors are already under spec, so they need to be replaced.

I have heard horror stories in the past of different brands getting easily warped.

Should I buy them from the dealer? Or will a NAPA, Autozone, etc. be just as good?

My guess is there are probably a small # of suppliers for most of the big stores anyway.

Thanks.

I would buy the least expensive ones you can find which should eliminate NAPA and the Dodge dealers. Ram brakes are rinky dink, the original rotors on my 2007 lasted about 15k miles when the rear rotors warped.

I've had good results in general with the "premium" line at Autozone. I've never purchased rotors for that particular truck, however.

I did the brakes on my '06 Durango recently. Replaced the origial pads only with Autozone Duralast Gold since rotors were OK at 96k miles. I've been very pleased with that braking system.

I have had 3 Dodge Ram trucks since 2002, all 1500 series regular cab models. The first was 2wd and went 163,000 miles before I sold it. I replaced the front pads twice and the rears once, never had to replace the rotors. Second truck was 4wd. It was totalled at 33,000 miles. At 18,000 I had 3 rotors surfaced due to radical warping which caused dangerous brake shake. At 29,000 miles I had the rears turned again. My current truck is 2wd once again. It has 71,000 miles and I've had zero problems with the brakes. I will certainly stick with factory components. I have written off the 2nd truck brake problems as a fluke. Factory components are the way to go.

I just replaced my rear rotors with autozone's least expensive model made in Mexico, they seem quite similar to Napa's "ultra premium" oriental parts. I hope your rotors come off easier than mine did.

This is the first service I've done on the rear brakes, at almost 150K miles.

No doubt, I did the fronts on my 03 last night. Had to use the BFH to get the rotors off!
