I have a theory. I'm starting to think that in 1973, they started putting the same valve covers on either the 318 or 340 motors. Does anyone care to prove me wrong?

Here is a drivers side valve cover that came off a 1973 340 Dart. Notice the same consistent high stand off angled wire loom holder. Also, notice the hole in the centre. This is not seen on valve covers 1972, and earlier?

Same 1973 340 Dart drivers side valve cover. 758EM17 is stamped on the engine side of the high stand off wire loom holder. Does anyone know what 758EM17 means?

How do you put oil in it??? The hole in the center is for the PCV valve. My '74 318 has the VC you show on the driver's side and the passenger side has a hole for the cc breather near the firewall end and a hole for a oil twist cap at the front. Bone stock and never been removed. OTH, the MP chrome covers I will be putting on are in deed identical. I will have to cut a second hole in one for the breather. Srry, I don't have any pics but it looks like you have three lefts (Driver's sides) Still want to know how you get oil through that little grommet hole...

I think I see the oil cap in the picture of the engine on the stand. Don't you? I see the large crankcase breather grommet too.

All, 70-74 passenger side valve covers have the oil filter hole & cap for adding oil. I'm not sure about earlier valve covers, or aftermarket though.

I only posted pictures of the drivers side valve cover. I don't think there is any disagreement on the pasenger side valve covers, in that 318 and 340 passenger side valve covers are the same. I'm trying to determine if the drivers side 318 and 340 valve covers are different.

WOW!! Sorry, I totally miss-understood the OP. Duhhh. It was early this morning and I hadn't had my coffee yet. Yeah that's it. I hadn't had my coffee yet I don't see why the driver's couldn't be the same from 318 to 340 tho.

I think you are right. I have taken off the smae types of valve covers with the tall bracket from both 318 and 340 engines (73-74).
