I wouldn't take a cable system kit if it was free. Too many moving parts to break. I've fixed a few and to me, it looks like they're designed to fail I installed the electric-life kit in my 98 Ram. Love them. They work essentially like the manual scissor style regulator, just motorize. I plan to put them in my e-body someday! But I'm not concerned with the weight issue.

Electric life. A little slow going up but reliable and convenient.
The E-L system in my Ram is a lot faster than the cable system in my '04 Expedition even after putting a new motor in. I lubed everything and made sure everything moved smoothly but in the winter, they often stop half way (must be a built in overload switch??) and then after waiting a second or three they'll go up some more... Sorry, ranting again The Ford's window goes down fast enough but it has gravity on its side. I was surprised at the speed of the Electric-Life system!
