92 dakota 3.9 runs great most of the tiome, but after a 10-20 mile trip then shut off for 10-20 minutes it misses and runs rough for a minute or so,no codes, fuel pressure is good, local mopar guy who is a VERY knowing mechanic says its the fuel pump,i did replace it some yrs ago,but probably 100,000 miles ago, always starts right up not like vapor lock,my guy says it might just be getting vapor on the highest cyl or 2 in the fuel rail, have ran a pressure check and pressure loss after shut down on the fuel system, pressure at first goes up some when warm, then slowly drops some, lowest ive seen was 23#,highest just after shutoff and hot raise was 42#,if you rev it up a time or two when it does this it clears right up,i also replaced the crank sensor as i had symptoms like that before and it was the crank sensor, but not this time, really doubt if its the injectors leaking but i changed 3 and it didnt change anything anyone have the answer,no problem changing the pump, just dont want to start throwing parts at it till i know whats wrong, bound to get worse as the weather warms up!!

I've got a '92 Dakota with the 5.2L. It ran very well, until I got it hot one day. Now it starts and runs great when it's cold, but once at operating temp for awhile it will not idle properly. Low, lopey idle, stalls. I have spare parts, so I changed everything the book says except the EGR valve. (fuel pump, entire throttle body, crank sensor, fuel regulator, pcv, etc.) I did read somewhere that the 'keg' style intakes warp, that could be my problem - still not fixed. Does the 6 cyl have a 'keg' style intake?

My 89 had the same symptoms. Turned out to be the distributor. Replaced it and has run great ever since. Fuel pump is either good or bad. No in between.
