i run auto lites 85 in my 70 runner 440,factory heads, went to change plugs and for the heck of it i thought i would try champions(don't remeber that number)but the champions seem that they protrude deeper then the auto lites(hope this makes sense)why is that? and i just ended up putting new auto lites instead, something told me not to go with the champs, thoughts?not looking for a who's a better plug. thanks

All i ever used in BB mopars was number 85 autolites. Never had a problem. I would say those champs were wrong number for application

Not a direct ans but you want the reach to be correct so there's no plug nor head threads not being used and therefore exposed to combustion which will create a hot spot and preignition. I'd make sure the champs have the same reach (3/4" iirc but not sure) as the autolite 85's that are known correct. EDIT make sure your choice is not tapered ones if the seat isn't tapered to match
