When setting the main bearing clearance's on a 500-512" stroker is it tipical to set rear main .001" more clearance that the rest? for instance if i set mains at .003" would the rear have to be .004"? what do you guys like to see for bearing clearance's?

i'v noticed that when ever i tear my small blocks down there is always more wear on the rear mains than the rest of the bearings. a local engine builder i know puts .0005-.001" on the rear main of the engines he assembles since it takes most of the torque.

I run .003+ main bearing clearances on all of the BB I do, I use Federal Mogul narrow groove truck bearings, especially on wedges that will stay under 8000 RPM I don't think any of the major bearing makers offer BB Mopar main bearing sets with a larger rear main bearing, the rear and the other three non thrust bearings are the same part number now

I shoot for .0025-.0035 on the mains, if it falls in that zone I can sleep easy. Dave
