I know the splines changed for the differentials at around the 1996 timeframe..........

But what is the changes, if any, to swap around 8 1/4 ring and pinions from a newer JY Dakota/Durango into an 80's era Mopar???

Dr Diff will know, but for now, I can tell you that my 1973 A body 8.25 was fitted with a clutch type sure grip AND 3.55 gears from a 94 Dakota 4x4. My axle guy said that the 8.25 is similar from 1969 to 1996!

OK, thanks a bunch.

I know the axle splines and mating differential changed in 97 but don't recall ever hearing about it changing in relationship to the diff's mounting to the ring gear being different or a change in the size pinion length or pinion bearing size.
