I have an 1985 Ram Charger that had a 318 the oil pump failed and I spun the #5 and #6 rod bearing. I'm putting a 89 360 with a 727 transmission in truck now. -s there gunna be any major issuses with linkage hook ups and or yoke problems that I need to address before I put the cart ahead of the horse? This is my first time owning a dodge so I'm in need of some tech help LOL

the 360 will drop right in and the tranny as well if you had a 904 you will need a shorter drive shaft. You should be able to find one in any junk yard.

I'm told the transmission was an A999 which is from what I hear like a 904 but tougher. I'm also placing a edle brock pro former intake and pro former 600 cfm carb on the engine. Is there a known issue with the 360 heads being prone to cracking?

should be a roller block at least,89 first yr for roller/tbi engines..which is a better start for a performance build

stock 85 truck 4-v linkage is best hook up on it

if you have a 727 on the 360 and the teen had a 904 you will need the bigger 727 slip yoke for the drive shaft that will need to be cut a couple inches to fit correct

the eddy intake and 600cfm carb will need the mopar throttle adaptor to go with the stock 4-v linkage

you can "mod o fry" some 2-v linkage if need be

a set of the hedman headers is a good plus and fit very well on the 85 frame

try to swap all the shift/kickdown linkage levers from the tranz thats comeing out of the truck to the one going in

that way you dont get mix match on the linkage but they pretty much swap around some

make sure the trans on the 727 or 904 is balenced for the 360 engine

needs a 360 rear sump truck pan..will not swap on the 318 pan

any stock 4-v intakes and q-jets have the correct throttle linkage and taller 4-v truck linkage

you can also use lokar and Bouchillon cable kick downs if you rather do that over rounding up stock linkage...bouchillon is the better of the 2 IMHO

all the 318 brackets pullys will swap over to the 360

may have the #308 heads which are super good on flow but are know for cracks in the exhast seat area

if it runs good..I would leave it together and run it

if its a roller block or if it has a roller cam..there are long and short nose stock roller cams for a fuel pump..

I used a lunati roller cam in mine with all stock roller gear from a stock 318 with comp 901-16 springs

if you go roller get the long nose cam and use a stock ecentric for a mech fuel pump in the 85

some washers/spacers can make the 318 one fit if need be

but good call, the one side is wider

The 360 is complete with the trans and driveline. Picked every thing up for 400.00. How many different types of heads is there for the '89 360 and how do I tell the difference. And I do wanna say ty for all the help it is greatly appreciated. Also I was told it would be a good idea to replace the standard oil pump with a higher volume one.

no need on the oil pump unless there is a problem with the one in there,

under the valve cover it should have big 360 cast into the head

you can find the cast # under there also

it on the bottom side of the head also when its off you can see it

587/308/XXXX there are a few cast # for the 360 heads and most of the later ones are just as good as early ones

#308s are supposed to be the best flow on sb heads since the x heads on the 340 308s are sought after for sure but a lot are cracked too

i run the 587 on my roller cam 318

best bang for the buck is up the cam to a cam that works good with low comp ratio and headers

I have swaped a few of the closed chamber swirl port #302 heads thats on roller cam 318s to a stock 360 to get the comp up and give it a lot more torque but its limetd on high revs cause of the small vales and small ports/runner

makes a nice work truck engine and does good in the 4x4s

another good upgrade thats fairly cheap is to get a stock high stall torque verter from a local tranz shop for around $120

that will give it some pep and be lot more fun than a low stall driving it

that was the best thing I did when I got my 85 truck and went roller cam in it the HS sure woke it up

what did the combo come out of?

whats it going in?

Heres a few pics from the engine i have some concern over the one cylinder that has alot of carbon build up in it. Also there seems to be alot of wear on the cam please take a look and let me know what you guys think.

cam will look like that when its used and has high milage

use a shop vac as you scrap the carbon off the piston

most likly needs a vj with carbon build up like that

if it ran good just clean it up and run it

Here's the 3 cams I'm really looking into

Comp Cam 20-612-9

Voodoo 504A1LUN

Voodoo 60711

The motor and trans are going into a ramcharger.

I run the lunati 60710 in my 360 headed 318 with comp 901-16 springs in a 85 stepside 3.23 sg

and have a 360 with the lunati 292/292 with comp 901-16 springs in a long bed 86 truck 4.10 sg

I looked at the 60711

I like the 60710 roller voodoo is a very nice street cam and works well in traffic gets 18mpgs with the 3.23sg

woke the high milage 318 cop engine right up

any of the lunati SB cams can use the drop on single springs/stock seals from comp to save machine work and p/c seals

I'm going with the lunati 60711 cam. Stock oil pump. The 360 has the 308 heads on it, I'm getting those heads checked and if they are cracked what heads would you recommend for replacement? I'm looking towards the aero head brand replacement heads. Also I have an 8.25 ring gear with an 294 ratio. What stall torque converter would be best suited. Any thoughts? Once again thanks for all of your help.

you better get a set of gears before deciding on a converter...

I am truckless..

i would just get a stock high stall TC for it

use of truck would dictate gear IMHO

3.91 were to much for a daily driver and the 60710 voodoo but was out the hole and good for the 1320' blast

3.23 are doing good in traffic with a 318

whats big in a teen is mild in a 360

choose wizly...results will vary
