I have a old B&M reverse pattern manual VB that has been in the car since the early 80s. How do I determine if it is a low band apply VB or other? Is this old VB junk compared to the new stuff on the market now?

If it has low band apply it will not be free wheeling in 1st gear on coast. Low band apply will have engine braking on coast in 1st gear.

Mine does not free wheel in 1st.

I rode in a few cars with free wheeling 727s and I thought they were strange.

Freewheeling means there is no engine compression braking when throttling back to idle in 1st gear....when freewheeling, the engine will drop to idle but the car will continue to coast with no braking effect from the engine.

I wasn't aware that B&M made a low band apply RMVB in the early eighties.

I ordered a B&M manual reverse pattern VB from the Super Shop around 82-83. It does not free wheel but I dont know if its a low band apply or anything about it now. I have all my old receipts somewhere maybe it will give a part # or some other details.
