I have a 98 5.9L 360 I'm using in my 72 Demon. Stock engine, using the stock weighted flexplate with a neutral balanced converter. What choices to I have for harmonic balancers? Does it need to be for internally or externally balanced motors?

pretty sure all magnums are neutrally balanced. so no weights on the converter. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

If it's stock, it will use a 360 magnum balancer. it's weighted, since the crank is cast. Pre-magnum 360 balancers are different.

318 magnums are neutrally balanced, 360s require the magnum 360 balancer. I believe all 360 magnums are balanced the same so you can find one for any of them. Just do not use the 2000+ balancer as the pulley and it are one piece.

I ask because some of these balancers come with or with out weights, so I need to know if the weights have to go on them or not.

So youre saying get the one with the weights essentially?

that is what I meant. I don't think the magnum balancers use weights.

They don't have weights, they use a semi-circle groove cut out in the face of the balancer. This is concidered external balance. The amount of weight cut out of one side, makes it heavier in one targeted spot.

but a 360 magnum is not the same balance as an LA 360 or cast crank 340, so those balancers won't work (for long)

some of the aftermarket dampers (the professional products one I know) have bolt-on weights. one of the PP ones is neutral balance and comes with bolt on weights for both cast 340's and for 360's.
