I am new to this forum and am unsure if the stock capacity pump will be okay. Can a HV pump be used with a stock capacity pan? Or will I need a deep-sump type.
(1) welcome aboard (2) stock capacity (std vol) pump is plenty adequate, hi vol pumps waste power and can excessively wear gears/hex and have been known to snap inter shaft hexes & not needed unless have large clearances/modded passages (3) sure, you wont pump a pan dry as the passages will only flow so much whether you have 30 or 90 psi) (4) deep sump not needed
![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif) oil pressure is what protects the motor from failure. This is produced by squeezing a volume of oil through the bearing clearances. More oil, more pressure.
Hence, a high volume pump is only needed on a motor that has excessive clearance.(your fresh motor will have tight clearances, that require a volume of oil that would most accurately match a std volume pump) HV pumps were developed to improve oil pressure in worn out motor's, NOT to provide better oiling in performance builds.
FWIW I run a standard pump on my 440. It always has lot's of oil pressure. If the pressure is right with a std volume pump, then that is all you need ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif)
