Yeah, that's fine for the US border patrol but how the hell do you think you're going to get into Canada without a passport ?!?!?

As for the smuggling bit, ask yourself if its worth losing the car, trailer and tow vehicle. 'cause Customs doesn't screw around if they catch you!

I'm not going to smuggle anything. When I talked to the border guard he said that I shouldn't have a prob. That it would just take awhile for the paperwork and citizenship verification. I'll be upfront with everyone there, I'm not going to lie to them.

The guy with the car also said that I could get into Canada with my driver's lisc and birth certificate. I guess if they don't let me into Canada I have nothing to worry about with the car then or getting back into the U.S.

Well "Not a Bee" and I went to Canada yesterday to look at that Arrow. It started out well by running out of fuel in my pick-up about 1/2 mile from the exit into a town. The guage didn't read empty but it was really windy so it might not have moving down as quickly as the fuel.?? Anyways got that taken care of and got to the border. The Canadians made us come inside asked us what we were doing and said that a driver's liscense and birth certificate were fine to get into Canada. I ended up purchasing the car and headed back to the U.S. We gave them our d/l and b/c and told them it was for personal use and not going to be on the highway. Then had to pull into the garage for them to look everything over. They said we should really get some passports but I really didn't think that it went to bad. From the time we got to the border to the time we left was maybe 1/2 hour. All in all it was a good trip and I got a new car. Oh and $10,000 cash per person is the magic # for crossing the border both ways. Hopefully this helps someone else if they are lookin to get a car from Canada.

Nice !
I have never had an issue crossing , but I have my passport.
I have seen bad deals and heard many horror stories though.
I don't know what the trigger is..........we crossed at Warroad once and saw a clean cut business man type get all of the Christmas packages he was bringing home to the family in Illinois unwrapped and inspected.
I am a skeptic and cynic by nature , and I would have waved this guy through with out blinking.
Nice score on the car though.......glad that running out of fuel was your only problem.

Clean cut business type people as a rule don't cross at Warroad. Mostly farmers and truck drivers cross there so he would have looked out of place and invited some "I wonder what he's up to?" type scrutiny. Doesn't take much to get them curious. Best way to get inspected is to answer a yes or no question with something besides a yes or no.
