So the spec for a standard-size RB rod journal is 2.3740-2.3750" and the rod housing bore spec is 2.5000-2.5005". When I use the bearing companies published "max wall thickness" for their standard-size bearings (.0622") and do the math, it "predicts" some pretty tight clearances for my crank (2.3741-2.3743"):
2.5000" - (.0622" x 2) - 2.3743" = .0013"
2.5005" - (.0622" x 2) - 2.3743" = .0018"

Are these "real world" #s, or are those bearing thickness specs thicker than what you'd typically see? I'm trying to figure out if I really need to order the +.001" bearings to put the clearance in the .0025-.0030" range. Thanks. - Brad

the simple answer is you just won't know until you cage and measure them.
Mahle/Clevite shows oil clearance between .0006-.0027
don't "assume" anything with the published "max wall thickness", since that's exactly what it is, the max. they may actually be thinner that that and usually are.
