i am making 900 with just the front plate and rubber trans mount 727.  some use limiters on the engine or trans though.

By rules, you are "supposed" to have something to support the connecting between the motor/trans It can be as simple as a cable running underneath incase the trans blows, you don't pogo stick down the track
