I cant get the trans in my Valiant to quit slipping. I adjusted the kickdown to where I think it is close but It seems to make no difference. I'm thinking that my fluid type may be wrong. I've always used ATF4 in my cars but all I had at the shop when the motor went in was type F. Is this the root of my problem or is my trans just giving up?

I'm not going to agree that type F is the best fluid to use ( completely different debate that is mostly just opinion) , BUT I will agree that using type F is not your problem.

Time for some trans work.

My tranny guy has been building 727's for 40 years. Back in the late 60's early 70's ran a funny car team. He's built 1000's of 727's and tell's everyone use Type F. B&M trick shift is nothing more then Type F. He's built more then a few of my trannies. I beat them hard. Never had one of his fail. Allways used the Type F. The first one he built me in the 70's was a full race hemi 727 with 5000 stall. I beat that tranny hard for 3 years till i sold the car. Tranny still shifted like new. I'll go with experience.

Great to hear man.

There are lot's of experienced trans guys who will swear by using dexron/mercon derivatives too. It becomes a long list of opinions and testimonials both ways.

If anything, all the fluid debate ever prooves, is that a torqueflite cares very little what fluid you use.

Which comes back to this thread, and that the fluid is not the issue. The problem inside the trans is the issue.

You'll find that people have successfully used every type of fluid on the market including engine oil and commercial hydraulic fluid. The 727 will tolerate just about anything including tap water (AMHIK)
