My harland sharps are very close to my springs. If the spring is rotated to where the top edge of the flat coil is twords the rocker itself it will leave marks on the aluminum. How much should I clearance off the rocker?

I know the springs will rotate on the heads, I was going to rotate all my springs to where the sharp edge of the spring was to the outside of the head, and then the round radious of the coil would give enough clearance, but it wouldnt last too long as they will rotate back into the bad spot. Any ideas??

First, you should make absolute certain the retainer is made for the spring!!! Fit is critical. Consider lash caps an option before grinding the rocker for about .080" from its closest point of contact.

Well Im running the tool steel retainer Ryan, and Brian both recomended. Everything else onthe heads are exactly where they need to be. I dont have .80 for sure.

You could try some -.050 keepers. That helped with our setup. Just remember your lowering your spring height by .050. May need to remove a shim?

X2.

Lash cap: changes the geometry. Unless it's already wrong in the opposite direction this will make things worse.
Grind the rocker: and then you know exactly where it will break.

1.550 springs on mine and I definitely have to have my Harlands machined. I hate it cause the rockers dont last as long.

I've had to fly cut ductile iron arms before, no problems. I don't know about aluminum arms, though, no experience.

630-16 is what we used. They are for 11/32, single groove valves with 10 deg retainers
