2-bbl vs. 4 bbl ??
I have the original 2-bbl air cleaner assembly for my 383 Satellite. Considering doing some fab work and putting it atop the 850dp on for the super-stealth look with the new 451. (stock valve covers, stealth heads, performer RPM Dual plane intake, all painted & stock appearing)
Should I have a Super Commando pie tin on this, or a Commando? (original vin-plate id's the car as a 2-bbl 383)

never have seen a commando pie pan.
You need to look around more. Commando 383, Super Commando 383, Road Runner 383, and 383 Four Barrel are just some of the available pie pans.
To answer the original post, I'd say generally Commando 383 would be a 4-barrel, Super Commando 383 would be 4-barrel with HP cam. That's an oversimplification, though. I'm not sure exactly what was used in 67, but no 1967 383 would have had a high-performance cam (all 67 383 2 and 4-barrel engines used the same cam).

Stolen from nicks garage website.
"In general, Plymouth cars used "Commando" on Barracuda and non-performance models and "Super Commando" on performance models except the Road Runner which used "383 Road Runner". Dodge used "Four Barrel" on Dart and non-performance models and "Magnum" on performance models. Red coloring was used up through late 1968 (some early 1969 models?) and orange coloring was used for most 1969 models and later."

"Turbo will be easiest, and at the HP level will also be easiest on parts. Spend the money to do it right, and you can build a 500 HP street motor that will live a long and happy life, and probably with a very basic short block."
Those words must have left a bad taste in his mouth!

"In general," I agree, but I would just note: (1) 69 383 Barracudas used a "Super Commando 383" pie plate; (2) only 69 big block A's got a high performance cam; 67-68 used the standard 383 4/2-barrel cam. If anyone disagrees, they are wrong.
But we digress . . . .

Hmmm, I thought 68 RR's etc. got the 335 hp cam. I guess I was wrong.
I was talking about A bodies :

I thought that was was clear enough, guess not.
Clear as mud . Its funny how a commando B body question morphed into a 67-69 big block barracuda discussion.
Back to how we were digressing.

OK, guess I should have said: Quote:

BTW, when the original question was about a 67 383 B body, it is also a digression to talk about 68 Road Runners.
But I will try to restrain myself from here on out . . . .

It's all cool. I didn't read between the lines. He said he has a Satellite, with a 451 and wants to dress it up factory-like with a pie tin... which may indicate that its a 68. His 67 Satellite with a 452 would come with a round hole twin snorkle tall-peak air cleaner. Many people on this board have multiple mopars, I can see where the confusion can set in. Now, can we regress to digressing, please.
