So in a F-body or truck/van that came stock with an OD 833, you shift 1-2-4-3

You still shift them like a normal 4 speed. 1-2-3-4(OD). The 3/4 gear lever on a OD trans is upside down so that 3rd and 4th gears are switched on the shifter.

Since the factory put the overdrive gear where 3rd gear was on the previous version of the transmission, from the factory they had a wonky shift pattern. However you can flip the shift lever over so it 'feels' like a normal shift pattern. This is how the stock wonky shift pattern was on my dad's volare with the factory 833 OD:

That is not a stock shift pattern, if that's how it shifted it's been messed with or improperly assembled from the factory.

Stock shift pattern is just like a non-OD A833.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.
