Looking for a rearend for my streetrod, have a 383 to put in it. Found a 8 3/4 non posi 3.23 for $150. Cost goes way up for posi and higher gears. My question is theres a pick in pull here, 1/2 price Wed. Found some dodge rearends, 9 1/4, but with the bigger bolt pattern. First question, is there enough on the axle to get the 5 X 4.5" bolt pattern drilled? Second is they have 2 ford truck dana 60's, can the same be done with them? I know spending more up front is probably the best, but $ is the problem, car is far from getting done, but would like an axle to set up suspension and get it rolling.

I'd go with the 8-3/4" as is for now, have it re-geared later by DrDiff. The Dana would add unecessary weight and probably end up costing the same or more in the end - assuming you don't need something stronger than the 8.
