Drill in horizontally in the rear of each head into the threaded boss then countersink into the rear pedestal vertical bolt hole to enable you to start an angled passage down to meet it. ~.080" will be a good start. Feed them from the passage capped w a NPT plug at the top rear of the block next to the oil sending unit. If you are currently getting started w the bare block up on the stand you can drill/tap the (5) vertical crank to cam passages for a setscrew & drill them w a 1/16" bit. This is plenty of oil for the cam journals/bearings and (stock), too much oil is shunted to the cam that would be better utilized elsewhere. PS a cam journal that feeds the heads should only be restricted to 1/8"

Not to hijack, but don't the roller-cammed 360 heads have larger pushrod holes? Will the older LA heads work on them without mods?

In order to know what you want, you'll probably have to find out what you don't want.

Technically speaking, the Magnum is an LA engine. The 5.9 Magnum came out in '93 and doesn't have the oil passages needed to lube the rockers but the earlier heads fit otherwise.

SOME of the early magnum blocks still have the oil passage to the heads drilled, ALL Magnum blocks have the passsageway present, all you need is to have it drilled if it isn't. If you're taking it to a machine shop for work it's a minimal job to have the passage drilled. If you just want to slap a set of LA heads on a running shrtblock then it's a different story.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

I have a couple pre-mags that oil the rockers the old LA style and with the oil thru roller lifters and hollow rods

I have had a couple early magnums that had the block drilled to oil older LA heads...but the mag head was not drilled with the LA oil passage

the later 360 head along with 318 heads all got the bigger PR holes when going roller cam

if it was a roller block and a slider cam the heads would still have the larger PR hole

never know what you will find when they are changing over to something new

they used up old stock, started useing new stock, then had a complet change fazing out old style engines

I would have thought oiling them both ways would be to much oil in the rockers/head..but when I went roller its oils both ways on my 88 cop engine,so did the 1990 tbi 318 I robed the roller gear from

my early 85 roller lifters are not oil thru and had solid rods...I went with it oiling both ways cause I will add mag heads later and it will be ready with the oilers in place

IMHO,never say never..no telling what it could be till you open it up and take a looky see
