I have a 71 Charger R/T sunroof car, The Challenger T/A in the pic above has a factory lookin sunroof (all were done by ASC) that has the cloth headliner with a few bows behind the sunroof. The high cost of the sunroof option in 1970 (almost $500) makes them rare today. Not all sunroofs were factory installed. Some were installed by dealers (they woud send it to a ASC instalation center) or you could get one installed yourself at a local ASC instalation center. The drain hoses (4 were used)were routed a bit differently in a non-factory install on the cars I have seen . I can tell you that the parts for a ASC sunroof are very hard to find today.

I have a copy of the buildsheet for the above T/A and it clearly has the M51 selected. It is the real deal. Has lots of other options too.

If anyone knows who owns that one now....

Please have the owner contact me. It would be nice to have it at Carlisle for the reunion in July.

I actually got a job today, it took 1/2 hour, only work I have had so far this month.

If work does not pick up soon, I will not be able to make it.

I heard about the trans am reunion a few years back, but unfortunately I wasn't able to go myself. Is there going to be another one this year, or is this something they do every year now?

T/As and AARs are the featured car at Carlisle this year.

According to the owner, it was originally beige.

Work is still dismal here as that goes, so if someone wants to buy me a winning lottery ticket & send it up......

WOW, I love this sunroof car posted above!!! After seeing pictures of this I now know what I'm going to make for my next project. I just found a nice solid 70 challenger and it comes with a 70 challenger sunroof assembly. The car is wearing it's original black paint and I'm going to make it into a triple black sunroof t/a . Decals are on the way, and found a used exhaust and original rear spoiler, now I need a hood

You can also tell a factory sunroof car by the first digit of the vehicle order number being the letter M for 1970 cars. I believe the 1969 sunroof cars vehicle order number started with the number 9. They also used the number 9 as the first digit to designate vehicle order numbers for aero cars.

Not really. A "K" - sometimes. An M if it was one of the VERY early show cars. There are some with no letter at all also, so checking the broadcast sheet for M51 is the best bet.

Kirby,
I do have a donation link, but it is rarely used. If everyone that used HH donated $1.00 a month I would not need a real job.

I did have a 3 hour job today, that puts me at 6.5 hours so far this month. I hope it picks back up & soon.

Barry

Thanks Barry thats good to know. The one a friend of mine had said M at the begining of the VON number.

It would have to be an early car, off the top of my head I do know of at least one M VON Challenger with a sunroof.

A good case in point is the AAR Cuda. Most AARs were Y16 - sales bank cars & they have the M. But, no sunroof available on any 1970 Cuda.

Early show cars were built as Y16 cars that were to be sold as used cars after their intended show use was over with. In the case of early Challenger sunroof cars, the M trumped the K in the VON.

Very early M cars - Y16 Sales bank / show car

Later M cars - Y16 - sales bank.
