I pulled the flex plate cover and did a good inspection tonight on my 318 and confirmed I am doing a rear main seal this weekend, if time allows. Looks like the oil pan will come off easy enough with the drag link out of the way. Does anyone care to offer any words of experience and are any seals better than others?
Thanks

Ive put 4 rear main seals in..
Make sure it is installed in the correct direction I unfortunatly learned that the hard way on my duster..
I like to put a small dab of silicone where the 2 halfs meet. also make sure the silicone isnt too old and wont dry. also learned that the hard way.

all mine have fel-pro gaskets and none of them leak. now..
good luck

You'd have to be pretty dense to confuse a tranny leak with an engine oil leak...

Yea I can see the oil pretty heavy between the oil pan and bell housing. It only leaks after I have run it and then shut it off. I also verified it is not coming from the back of the intake.

guess I haven't seen to many rear main leaks...it's usually back of the intake or the oil pressure sending unit that I've seen, and if it's coming from inside the bell of the tranny, it's been the front pump seal of the tranny, or maybe the oil pan
