same here, we have had the coldest winter in our history. not sure what the cause of global warming is but I do think it's real. it's not only about the heat but extreme conditions. look around.

Scamp, I'm still waiting for that global warming thing to start! Right now it's only 7 degrees outside and windy.
p.s. I just love pulling along the side of one those hybrid cars and dropping a gear letting them get a sniff of my race fuel!oh and the sound of a big block wide open.
I was born and raised in NY, not upstate, but the Southern Tier/Susquehanna region. I went to school in central NY near Syracuse, so I understand what you are going through! I bought a hybrid about a month ago simply for the fact that I needed another car, and I am saving about $75 a week in gas money that does not ultimately end up in the hands of people that hate me. I can ride the high occupancy vehicle lanes all by myself, whereas I could not in my truck unless I had at least 1 other passenger. Traffic in Northern VA is among the worst in the country and I commute 33 miles each way. The way I see it, the money I save in gas, I can blow on the racecar! I am converting to E85 for the racecar the next go round for the same obvious reasons many others are.

I agree, traffic in your area sucks! How come you can use the HOV lane with 1 person? Because of the hybrid?

Actually motorcycles are exempt from the HOV restrictions in the DC metro area, but get this: A guy in my office has a 2005 Prius and a Harley full dresser (Road King, Heritage or one of this big boys), and his Prius uses much less gas than the HOG, and by a significant amount! I have even seen those bikes with the V8's in them cruising down the road.

here's a thousand years of history for you. http://knowledge.allianz.com/en/globalis...definition.html
and a little take out of this article
But while America’s ‘Sunshine State’ shivered, the Arctic basked in temperatures considerably warmer than normal. Air temperatures in November and December were between 5 and 9 degrees Celsius above the average, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute confirmed.
http://knowledge.allianz.com/en/globalis...old_winter.html
now people can believe what they want about the cause. and it will never effect us in our life time I bet. but something is going on whether we caused it or not.

I believe in global warming. We are recovering from the last ice age; ofcourse it is warmer! Be careful what you ask for, another ice age would be worse. It is tough to get traction when you are under a mile thick ice sheet. In my little southern corner of Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay we typically get less snow than say DC. But I see about a foot of snow on my driveway right now. I love the cost savings in running E85 in my race car. The use of renewable fuel (ethanol), and less imported petroleum are side benefits.

Carbon dioxide is not the main greenhouse gas that we have to worry about; water vapor is. But the environmentalists and the politicians can't do anything about it since it occurs naturally from evaporation, so they tell us that carbon dioxide is the problem. Keep in mind, that if we didn't have the small natural greenhouse effect that the water vapor gives us, the temperature on the Earth would be like that on Mars, where a warm day would be zero degrees!
Of all the Carbon Dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, 51 percent is from plants and trees, 45 percent from the oceans, and only three percent from the burning of fossil fuels!
Surprisingly, this much maligned "Greenhouse Gas" accounts for only 0.035 percent of our atmosphere. The real problem 'Greenhouse Gas" again, is actually water vapor, which accounts for about two percent of our atmosphere. However, it occurs naturally in our atmosphere, due to ocean and water evaporation, and since the global warming folks can't stop it, they ignore it and pick on the Carbon Dioxide instead. According to scientists with the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, "Water Vapor is the predominant greenhouse gas, and plays a crucial role in the global climate system".
The whole thing in a nutshell, is that the Earth's environment and it's climate are very complex, and to really understand what is happening, we must weed out the political, environmental, and media propaganda, and examine the facts. It is very hard to solve a problem, when one does not exist, and as far as global warming and human cause goes, there is no problem to be found, therefore there is none to solve.
Climate change is real" is a meaningless phrase used repeatedly by activists to convince the public that a climate catastrophe is looming and humanity is the cause. Neither of these fears is justified. Global climate changes all the time due to natural causes and the human impact still remains impossible to distinguish.
Here are the basic facts you need to know: Billions of dollars of grant money is flowing into the pockets of those on the man-made global warming bandwagon. No man-made global warming, the money dries up. This is big money, make no mistake about it. Nothing wrong with making money at all, but when money becomes the motivation for a scientific conclusion, then we have a problem. For many, global warming is a big cash grab. The climate of this planet has been changing since God put the planet here. It will always change, and the warming in the last 10 years is not much difference than the warming we saw in the 1930s and other decades. And, lets not forget we are at the end of the ice age in which ice covered most of North America and Northern Europe."

so we had an iceage the ice melted so that was a global warming correct. and I can promise you there where no cars/industries at that time.

never said there were but there was some awesome dino racing going on. never said what the cause is either. the planet core temp is rising may be natural may not. but it doesn't make much since to keep poluting. look at LA, wouldn't want to live in that mess or china.

I have lived here for 15 years and I don't remember it ever being this cold for this long, it is crazy.
I think it around 1983 - give or take a year - and we had a cold spell in December / January where it didn't get above 25 degrees for almost a month straight.
Sometimes we get frozen in like this, and other times it's been in the 70s in December and I've been out riding my bike in a t-shirt.

Oh, goodie... more snow in the forecast.
It's snowing here now, haas been since 3pm. They cancelled my sons wrestling practice this afternoon, and school will probably be closed tomorrow too. Did you see that some of the counties around DC have already spent their snow removal budget, and we have more coming tonight and another storm coming this weekend? If meteorologists are scientists, then I have little faith in these scientists making these predictions about global warming, when we can't even identfy what the weather is actually going to be the next day.
I want both of my boys to be weather forecasters, and here is why: You never have to be correct, and people tune in to watch you and plan their entire lives around whatever you say. You can be completely wrong and you will stll have a job (well, maybe they should get into politics!).
For example in April they might say it is going to be mostly sunny and partly cloudy, with a high of 70 and a low of 40, with a 50% chance of some scattered showers in aftenoon and into the evening hours. What does that tell me? THEY HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE WEATHER IS GOING TO DO, but they have a 100% chance of knowing what it might do according to their high tech weather tracking equipment. So, basically, I am rolling the dice on whether or not to load up and drive 90 miles knowing that at some point in the day it might be sunny or it might be rainy. I go through this every single year with the Mopar meet at Mason Dixon and MIR.
