Now THAT looks like a fun class. With those rules a .400 tree might work, but with no minimum weight they will have to stick to their guns on the "street appearing" and "no gutted race cars". That's racing I would like to be involved in, and I bet spectators would like it too. Good luck to Thompson, I hope it works.

Oh believe me I've been putting my in all winter about how they should have a 9.90 class, not just because it fits my car but because they could fill the lanes for that class. I think they'll have plenty of Stangs and Camaro's to get a 16 car field, I'm just trying to get some Mopars rounded up. I'd have to beat my opponent by 9 tenths on the tree to be competitive but I'd love to try the class at least once this year to support it. At Norwalk last summer only a couple cars went 8.90, the rest of the field was all over the place, but Thompson's rules are much more lenient with the big tires and lexan windows so car count won't be much of a problem. Heck I was at Thompson November 1st and couldn't believe how many 8 second hot rods were there. Thanks NotaCharger for the info, I thought he might be a member.

Im with you Bob, I was hoping for something like 9.90 also. I don't think my PIG will run that quick..... Even if both of us go on a diet!!!!!!! I Don't think 3000# with driver is possible. Should be a decent showing I think, There some quick GM guy's near Butler PA & those Mustang guys are all over the place. What does the viperakron guy run??? Is he a regular at Thompson?? V10

Those are exactly the type of rules that bug me. If you have an all steel 3000# tube frame car you can't compete. Please explain how if running on an index a round tube frame is an advantage over a back half There are a number of 8.50 races I'd like to try but everyone seems to be against heavy full chassis cars.
Why aloow Lexan and not tube chassis or gutted interior? Weight is weight - and since there is no weight rule - it shouldn't matter. They don't care how you make your horsepower or how much of it you have - so eight/chassis/interior should be viewed the same as NA/NOS/Blower/Turbo/PC.
8.90 is 8.90 - aside from electronics and car type (for aesthetic reasons) - it shouldn't mater how you get there.

They could allow your car by simply changing to a .500 pro tree instead of .400 pro tree. Once every car in the field is able to red light, (by virtue of the slower tree) and no delay boxes are allowed, the advantage of your tube frame goes away.
I don't understand this? I can go .00X and .01X on a .400 Pro Tree and my car is back-half.

Most back half cars can't do that. You can see by their rules that they are targeting a specific type of car for this class. Fast, street appearing cars.
Jims car is street appearing, but a tube frame chassis would usually be an advantage over a stock suspended car for reaction times on a pro tree. Since they are not allowing electronics, switching to the slower tree would mean every car COULD redlight, so every driver would have to adjust for that. To me that eliminates the advantage a chassis car would have had over a back half car.
If he has no obvious advantage, there would be no reason not to let him run this class.

I understand your debate, but this all been discussed and this class at Thompson is a result of ongoing issues with Norwalks 8.90 gig. They have been hashing this out on the Bullet for months and this is as close as they've come to pleasing the masses. As for me, if nobody buys my junk, I'll be there.
Yep, I've been watching all the threads about it. I think that's why the big tires and lexan windows were allowed, so more cars could be included and keep the car count up.
I sold my 73 DartSport because it had big tires and lexan windows which didn't fit into any of the local street car shootouts. Now I have a heavier car with small tires and glass windows and this class comes out, and the other shootouts have dissipated. Oh well I love the Dart!

I'd love to try it. Not sure yet on the funds to get all the ducks in line to get to 8.90 "legally". With a few more pounds of boost I could be there. It's an awesome class.

I think he is running a Camaro now........
Yes, I was afraid to bring that up!?? But it has a Mopar intake and TF? I just drive the car for Big John Stevenson. My fleet is all Mopar!
Several of us who didn't fit into the Norwalk Heads Up program put this class together.
This going to be a fun class. It was started because of the "Stock Frame Rail" restrictions for Norwalk's 8.9 SA class. Lots of cars displaced by the lack of a Gold and Silver class in Norwalk's OS are left without at home.
We are looking for "street appearing" cars not gutted bracket cars. The rules were patterned from the East Coast 8.5 index programs. There are exceptions to every rule and we'll look at anyones car who feels it's "street appearing" and fits the spirit of the class.
The test date May 8. May 15 is the back up in case of weather. If all goes well, we'll be part of the Asphalt Wars program throughout the summer!!!
Over 40 cars are committed to date. Check out the 8.9 thompson thread on yellow bullet.

Thanks for the post ViperAkron, what year and color is the camaro you drive so I can look for it?
Rick I'd LOVE to see you set the Chally up for this index! We'll keep a fresh bottle for ya! This is the kind of local class that would talk me into a power adder but all my funds have to go into my son's sports right now and I'm fine with that.
