So, any idea what caused the prevalence of straight axles in "Gasser" classed cars? Usually it's that straight axle that makes us think "gasser" but according to that article (which was very good and appreciated, BTW) it was more a weight:CID street car class, or classes, of racing...Am I right, or did I miss something?

Well, think it was a case of Monkey see / monkey do?
Back then it was hard to find anything that would work as a drag tire ..Plus, gears, clutches, etc
They believed that the nosebleed stance transfered the weights better that way ..
