Instead of those new Billet Meziere or CSR water pumps? How do they cool at the track for you?
I like the idea of having the ability of taking off the motor adding a pulley and a belt for those who would want to drive there race cars some?

I was surprised when a well known SS/AH racer still running one of these, along with a stock style MP dist..
But from a financial stand point I dont have a aluminum housing and water pump so...By the time I spend the $100-$150 for these and then the $75-$100 for the Moroso drive kits..Im within means of one of those fancy water pumps...
The last setup i ran was a stock style aluminum water pump housing, and a bolt in electric water pump which was a meziere unit..Used it for several years too.
One thing about that old setup, you never thought about it any..I knew when I flipped the switch it was taken care of..

I used one for a long time before I got a CSR pump. Never had an issue with it.

That same kit is now on the 72 and working great.

If you keep an eye out you can usually find a good deal on them at swap meets.

I have one. might put it on my turbo motor. I have a bunch of "vintage" racing parts I am putting to use for my budget car. I have a Direct Connection aluminum crank pulley that is like 4" in diameter to drive the alternator

We still run one. I think there is an aftermarket overdrive motor pulley because the one on the car is slightly larger than the spare that came with the car (never researched it). The previous owner may have installed it to spin the water pump over faster if he had a cooling problem. It works well with our combo.

I have one on the red car. It works really well when I remember to turn it on.

Bought the kit new at a swap meet for $50.

I run one and it works great even with the summer heat here in Phoenix. I even picked up a used spare that is in great shape for about $40.

I replaced my Moroso with a Meziere pump... gave the
Moroso to a member here... I feel much more at ease
with the new pump IF I wanted to drive on the street

That is what I always ran. Nothing wrong with them, other than they are not aesthetically pleasing compared to the billet pieces. I bought mine in 2000, used off a S/G car and it is still running today as if it was new. I use a plastic $12 Jegs plastic fan bolted to the WP flange instead of an electic fan. Even cooled it down plenty all they way down to round robins into the finals.

I run this type. You can afford to keep a spare motor and belt, and pump. I have seen a couple of the hi dollar pretty pumps go out at the track, I have not yet seen anyone with these pumps carry a spare due to cost. The Moroso style electric drive works fine, I don't see any reason to change it.

79-up Omni Horizon heater blower motor without A/C is a low dollar replacement motor option. The mounting stud thread is different, but no big deal.

I picked up mine at a track, a racer had a pile of stuff he was selling cheep, I bought a bunch of stuff, I think $40. for the moroso pump kit with the bolts and spacers. That was five or more years ago and still works great.

Me. I've had the same one for thirty years. Think about it....if your $300 Meziere pump goes out, you load up and go home. If your little Moroso motor goes up, you replace it and keep on racing.

I still use an old MP mechanical tach drive distributor, as well, as long as an original SW Mechanical tach.

I ran one on the 340 Challenger with zero problems, also used one of the included (3) restrictors in place of a thermostat....the price actually changed that much over 20 something years....Summit sells the kit for $85 and the replacement motor for $50....

I run the shogun manifold with a 25 dollar harbor freight pump.I always pack a extra pump and i can change it in about five minutes..My son runs the old moroso unit but it has failed quite a few times.Of course alot of this is his fault as the little pecker takes off and lets it run all the time.lol

Same exact equipment here.I looked at the old log book...that Moroso water pump drive has been in the car since we built it in 1981.

I ran one for awhile on my old Dart sport, but I was much happier when I switched to a used Meziere that I got for a great price. The engine compartment looked better and it cooled better.
But you guys are right, I couldn't afford to carry a spare Meziere.

OK
Lets look at the weight of a setups. So what does a aluminum housing, and aluminum water pump with a Moroso setup weigh?
Weight is always important to me. More so than cost in this case.
What does the Meziere unit weigh?
If it would be 10 lbs or so...That would be a nice savings.
Thanks guys...I would imagine that the failure rate of those Meziere pumps is pretty low. I personally dont know anyone who has had one fail.
Im still looking at a few hundred dollars for the basic setup.

Bob, I have the aluminum housing and stock style aluminum high flow pump. I use a heater blower motor to run it and carry the Moroso motor as a spare in my trailer. The motor is for an AC equipped car and with the oversized pulley on the motor it spins the pump and fan probably close to 50% faster than the Moroso motor did.

I just went out in my shop and weighed the whole setup, motor, pump, housing and thermostat housing all bolted together was 13 lbs. I think the motor is for a late 70's Lincoln with AC but I can't remember for sure. I could probably get a part number for the motor if anybody's interested and maybe post a pic. I use a high pitch stainless steel fan I think I bought from Summit or Jegs a few years back.

I went through 2 Moroso motors before I went to the blower motor. Now I think I need to replace the motor again but I've had the car since 87 and some years it'll get close to 400 laps.

I have also run the old-school Moroso setup and carried a spare motor for many years.

One thing that I have learned is to shut off the water pump motor before blast-charging your battery. The battery charger will burn up your motor if you leave them both running for an extended period of time.
