<im ready to buy a torque converter for my 727 trans. Its for my 67 HEMI cuda race car.

I gt my 727 off CRT.

John reccommended a PTC 9 inch converter with a steel stator, set up to flash at 4500 $905.00

I thought it was a bit expensive....or not? Does PTC make a good converter? What should I look for when buiying? Anti baloon plate? Bigger bolts?

I believe I will try Lenny at Ultimate If I where you...
Nothing wrong with PTC, I have used there converters and had good luck...
I also have had Coan, and they have been great also.
Turbo action is nice...A Neil Chance would be the best IMO though.

The 8" converter I got from PTC was terrible. I had to send it back after only 5 passes because the car lost over .8 and 5mph in the quarter. The first three passes were fine, then it started slowing down. They said it was perfect and sent it back. I tried it again and it was OK. I did not make any changes to the car while I was waiting for the return of the converter. Obviously it was not perfect since they did something to it so it worked correctly. I pulled the tranny out to have it freshened last month and the converter would not come out of the tranny. My tranny guy had to make a special jig to get the converter out.
The converter ruined the front pump and twisted the splines on the stator support, so I had to get new ones. I sent the converter to another reputable converter manufacturer,Turbo Action. It cost me $80.to have it taken apart and checked, not to mention the #30 to ship it to them. I was told most of the converter was junk. It looked as if some of the fins were bent when it was assembled. I was also told that the ring gear was in the wrong location. That explains why the starter would occasionally grind when I tried to start the car. They said rebuilding it correctly would cost almost as much as a new converter and they would not guarantee it. I told them to throw it away.
I bought a PTC instead of a Turbo Action based on the recommendations I got on this web site. I'm sorry I paid $800. for a converter that is junk and cost me additional money to have it redone, and for the cost of the parts for the transmission.
I would go with Turbo Action or ATI,but NEVER PTC.

i have a 9.5" PTC that i'v had good luck with, but the first one i got from them had to go back. they told me the stator was rubbing the housing.
i will be buying a new convertor in the next few months for the 408. i'm looking for an 8". not sure where i'll be getting the next one from after hearing this about PTC.

There's a few good ones out there but I only run ATI converters. I run an 8" on the street/strip, 60 foot is a 1.36 in a 3200# street car through the exhaust and only has 5% slip. I've had the same results in 2 other cars with ATI converters, great customer service too.

The 9" PTC I had slowed my car down. It exhibited 11% slip - based on actual data from my data logger. I called PTC before purchase with all the info on the car..including the Dynamic Converter (4% slip) that was in it along with ET/MPH data.

I have never had any problems with Dynamic (Lupo), going back 40 years (back when they were Fairbanks). I see Dvorak is working with them too.

I would not buy another PTC..

I have a Ulimate 8" that slowed my car down .9 and went from having 1.47 60' to 1.66 and is being shipped back.I only made 3 runs and went home and pulled it out and since I'm in Canada that was a $1600. purchase with everything in,taxes & shipping etc. I run a 8" TCS and it had the sprag go on it last year and i shipped it back and for $250. it's new again and staying in the car for good. 1.41 60's in a 3420 Aspen/408

You will get alot of differnt opinions as some have bad times with the same converter others will swear by. As for me I have only used Turbo Action and Luppo Dynamic. I have the 9.5 Dynamic in my 63 and my sons Dart and both have worked great. We drive our cars much more then we race them and the Dynamic 9.5 works great on the street and the track. As for Turbo Action I ran one in my 383 Dart and it worked perfect and my brother runs them alot with never any complaints. Ron

The last 3 converters I've had were all custom ordered for my application. 1st was a Dynamic,I gave Sean all my info, it worked pretty good. The 2nd and the worst/slowest was a Coan, I gave Craig my info, customer service after the sale
The best was the PTC were I spoke to Kenny. The PTC had the best 60',ET and mph of the 3. It's a tight 8" that's been in the car for 3 years on the street and track. It's been 1.35 60', foot brakin on leafs,Dot tires just under 3500lbs.

8 in PTC here works great

best 60 is 1.38
pulls wheels about 3-4 inches every pass

and kenny is easy to talk to

convertors are funny and if you don't get one that is right for your combo it will kill your performance

We have been Turbo Action customers for 33 years. We have NEVER had any problems with the Turbo Action products, one of our converters is 33 years old and still works great, never been apart or back to them for anything.Paul Forte(owner)is one of the best and he's always been very helpful.

Giving accurate and truthful info will make your converter purchase a very good investment.

With all due respect Chris, it appears some still get it wrong even with all the info.
I am also ready to pull the trigger on a new converter and sending it back is a very expensive deal.

I have had great luck with Turbo Action. Paul is a great guy!

I have a 9.5" dynamic sitting on the shelf right now, but have not installed it yet. Bought it during their christmas sale!
