CHAPPER OP master C Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 3,410 Belpre,Ohio	What are some opinions on 'how old of tire would you run'? I have some slicks that have been run very little, but are getting some age on them. They look Ok as far as dry-rot/cracking etc. They are Firestone,,so that in its self says they have some age. I imagine you all feel like I do.."do YOU trust them?" I can't remember exactly when I got them, maybe 10 years old! If you like drag racing, support your local track.

sg66mopar pro stock Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 1,288 Oregon	You'll get a lot of "opinions" here. Mine is that the overall cost of using an old, dried out tire is not worth the effort. Every time you go to the track you pay for tow gas, race gas, wear & tear on everhthing, entry fees, etc. If you can't make decent passes because of a "tired" tire you're just "spinning your wheels".

Crizila master Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 7,506 Az	A lot depends on how much they have been exposed to ozone. A my own rule, I don't like to run or drive on anything over 7 years. On daily drivers you will seldom reach that number and they are usually worn out before age becomes an issue, but on low mileage stuff it can be a real concern. Just rolled a fresh set of front tires on the car I race for that exact reason. Fastest 300

The car didn't run quicker/faster with new ones, but the 60' times were better and the car didn't hop out of the hole. They also wore about 4x as quick as a new pair.

Have you run the car before... on good tires, if so you know what the 60' should be.... but I dont believe you will see that performance with a set of old tires

Otherlane super stock Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 830 east coast	I brought a set of M&Hs DOT tires about 4 years ago and only made 3 passes on them than blew my engine.The tires stayed on the car the whole 4 years in a garage.Well i made 2 passes on the same tires this pass november.the tires dead hooked and the only reason i tired them because they still looked new and wasnt dry rotted.Just use your own judgement but $500 isnt worth a $15000 lost either.
