its a auto with a clutch shifter is on the tree. clutch is just to get it moving. it has a 6cyl looks kinda like a flat head. its a ex military car has all the stickers and some paper work in the glove box. should i pick it up the body is decent shape no big rot floor is solid frame is soild

grill looks like a 49 dodge,,,seen one this past november a little longer i think,, said it was a 1950 chrysler limo,,,the trans is what they call a clutch flight,,never seen one in person,,,sounds crazy

Thats too nice too hack up.Id drive it like it is.That has to be an early limo with the size and doors.My old man had a Dodge with the clutchflite.First car I ever drove.Was like 7 and backed it out of the drive.Man was he mad.Rocky

I had a 51 Dodge with the auto with a clutch. it tooka couple of lights to remember to use the clutch but after driving it a while I loved it, the car just smelled like rat pee and looked just as bad, so I sold it and moved on

i get the car this weekend i still dont know what im going to do with it? i'll post up a bunch of pics. it would look pretty crazy as a gasser i have a extra 383 and 727 that would be much more fun then the 6 cyl.

The trans in these cars is pretty unique. They are a two RANGE and then two speeds in each range with hydraulic/automatic shifting between the two gears in each range. You simply put it in what would normally be first or second (first being low range,second being high range)for a three on the tree and then let the clutch out. There is also a torque converter in these trannys so you don't need to use the clutch for a short stop or to slow way down. To get them to shift between gears you accelerate til you want to shift then let up on the throttle and the trans should shift and then accelerate again. They shift with a clunk and the slang for them at the time was a Clunk-a-matic. The six cylinder is a flat head (called an L-head) and is as dependable as they come normally. Not the most powerful engine ever, but they run forever if cared for. Looks like a real nice find. Good luck with it.

I'd first just GET the car . Clean it up , see how far you can get everything working again . Sometimes old cars don't really take much to get back on the road . While it's nice to dream about updates & swaps for the future the car will be at least a little more valuable (not that these types of cars are worth a ton investment wise)
You may find you like the car just as the factory built it or you may come across something you love even more , and that would be the one to spend the time & effort with .

the whole deal kinda went south. the papers for the car has some issues. so im just waiting if they get the papers all in line

when theres a will theres always a way
