I use mine as a daily driver too. You kinda get a bit more respect on the road being a bigger truck; mine is drw. I drive about 30 miles to and from work and it makes 20-25mpg depending how I drive.

I run a old 95 3500 dually with the 96 6 speed case
2wd... works great pulling my 43' enclosed.... it
has a 4.10 gear with the tallest tire I can get...
still wish I had 1 more gear to keep the revs at 1900
My 2wd can get stuck pretty easy so the 4wd would help
that but the 4wd burns more fuel(more weight and drag)

let me get this straight.you have a 95 truck with a 96 6 speed case? i didnt think you could get a 6 speed untill 2001?.if so how hard was it to change out.i love my 95 two wheel drive 3500 dually.but it really needs a six speed trans and im dumb enough to spend the money to convert to a 6 speed.lol!.

Funny you bring this up Rick, I'm looking at buying a buddy's '02 sport 3500 6spd 4x4. Can't wait to get me a proper tow rig.

I custom ordered my 2004.5 when the HO or 600 was released here in California, best truck ever for me. 3500, SRW, 6 speed and 4x4. Has all the power I need and gets 22-23 unloaded on the freeway and 13 - 15 pullin the 24' Pace. Would not think of selling it with only 65k on it.

Lets just say one fell into my lap and it was a
straight swap.... a friend owed me a favor and he
put it in(I didnt have a hoist at the time) but they
did come out with them in 96... its the best case,
very beefy

On these trucks the only ones that should be spec'ing a 4.10 is the people using them for mason dumps and the like. They just don't need that much gear.

I have a '01 HO 6-speed 4x4 with 185K miles. Changed computer and exhaust for more power at 30K. Now has about 330hp. Had to put a clutch in it at 60K after loaning it to a friend who forgot to mention they didn't know how to drive a stick. So the current clutch has over 120K pulling trailers, plowing snow all winter, and being my daily driver Not even thinking of a new truck yet. It is noisier inside the cab than some poeple like and i shut it off before ordering in a drive-thru. I don"t use hands-free and never have a problem with cell calls.

Mines not new, a 95 with a 5 speed. The pumps hopped up 4" quiet exhaust, 3.55 gear, and tall 285 75 16. I wsa leary at first about towing with a stick but would never buy a automatic to tow with again. I tow a heavy 32ft tri axle. 13 mpg at 65mph. It goes up any hill. You guys are right a 2wd gets stuck in spit. But I don't tow in the snow.

Our old truck had 3.55 with an auto.It would tow anything ang get 16/18mpg, not this 6sp/4.10 only 11/12 mpg towing.
