What would be the best way and what product or chemical would be needed to flush a torque converter? It is out of the car and the transmission has had no issues just normal clutch dust and wear.

check local tranz shop, some have a machine that spins and flushes them

could pick up a fresh reman one cheaply

I drain them in a bucket over night and refill and run them, when the are fairly clean to start with,IMO

EPA regs supposedly made the trans shops do away w the converter flushing machine. Run some solvent thru it, slosh it around then drain it & flush the solvent out completely w some new fluid & you're good.

Put a drain plug in it, makes it easier to change the fluid later too.

Once you see a used converter cut open you won't settle for less than a rebuilt.

Don't forget to buy a flush kit to clean the transmission lines and the transmission cooler. Then blow them out good.

I agree.
Reman TC's (stock) are under a hundred bucks and
their 2400 stall TC's are under 250.
They're the biggest, by far, suppliers to the tranny rebuild shops.

never had the EPA tell us anything about getting rid of our flusher we got rid of it because most of the units for the last 20 years have had some kind of luck up converter and it wasn't worth the gamble when a reman cost no more than they do
