i'm on the fence here. thrust bearing clearance came out at 0.008" and i'm wondering is i should go with it or have the crank welded up. it is a 4.15" eagle that is going in a 12.2 CR/EZ-295/solid roller engine. any thoughts?

Run it; you'll never know the difference...

Still Ok but close to the high side. My old 496 was like that. It never got worse. I could actually feel the crank move back and forth when I pulled the crank back and forth

It's on the limit but nothing to worry about , i ran the clearance @ .013" & had no issues , i've since found a guy that does white metal work on these bearings , sent the bearing away & had him add .008" to the rear thrust face of bearing , cost £40.00 , which is around $70.00.

Run it, before you do run it check the end play with the motor in the car and write it down. Run the motor some and recheck it after 40 to 50 passes or sooner if you want and see if it is staying the same or getting more end play

I have run them as loose a .009 and as tight as .003, although not idea...I had no problems..These were pretty healthy race engines..one making 900hp.

When you are assembling it file a chamfer on the parting line on the bearing face to pressure feed the rear thrust surfaces. It can't hurt to get a little more oil in there.

Clearance should be .007 to .009, .008 is perfect!

I wouldn't worry looser, its tight that will get you.
