Just saw my car with paint for the first time today. If that doesn't motivate I don't know what does. Actually scare is probably a better word.

Informal poll: Should I have them wet sand it to a ridiculously perfect glass sheen or leave it with some orange peel for an OE look? I can't imagine paying big $$ for orange peel but figured I would take the pulse of friends here.

Thanks,

EW

Yep............that is motivation at its best. I know you are proud. Funny because I think you posted some comments a few weeks ago about some body work and sanding questions that I had. Look at you now! Maybe next month I will have mine ready. Looks really nice...........the lines especially.

Very Sweet! It is great to see color after extended prep time. You lost Oe look when you went base coat clear coat (which is cool by me) the ridiculous shine is the way to go but you may consider waiting til you are done, because some touch up will be required unless you are a lot more careful than me. Just make sure they protect it from getting compound in the jambs and hard to clean areas.

Careful, your character's showing!

Looks awesome.

I don't prefer the orange peel look on a base-clear paint job. Looks unfinished.

ERIC, if you are going to restore the car with all correct date coded parts and everything correct, then go with a glossy top parts on the car and go orange peel on the lower sections of the car, then you got the best of both worlds, thats what i did on my 68 hemi roadrunner.
if your not going with all original oe parts then go all glossy paint and no orange peel.

Looking great. I like them slick too. Most of the people that will look at the car will appreciate it slick also.

IMO, I think glossy and smooth is more accepted in the show car arena. Don't try to duplicate the factory imperfections. Only a select few will appreciate the standards of originality but it really depends on what you want.

if you're payng for it, make it slick as glass, why would you want a badass car to look like it has cheap paint job?

On BC/CC definitely wet sand the heck out of it.

S/S on an older car, I actually prefer a little orange peel.

I am in agreement with everyone on here on the topside. Now the question is the bottom. My intention is to replicate primer/overspray as opposed to body color. If the top is "over restored" and the bottom is primer/overspray I still think that works...the guy I bought my GN from had an OE gold 67 GTX. Said he figured the point deduction for paint being too nice was worth it.

Replicating overspray is 'over restored' in my book. Why intentionally crap up a nice paint job trying to replicate factory sloppiness? Your paint looks great!

I agree, take the deductions. Especially if you don't intend on taking it for OE Level Nats Judging. Anything less will not be much of an issue.

I think bigger would be leaving the factory waves and welding spatter on the engine compartment and underneath it. Might be tough to do if you did some metal work on the car. Just don't get too anxious on the rotissere and start smoothing everything out.

To bad my car was painted in 1993. It's engine compartment is overdone.

Very nice.
I am very envious. I hope to see mine at the stage you're at in about 2 months. I took mine to painter last month, he told me to expect completion about April. I'm nervous about getting it back and having to put it together.

If you plan on mostly local shows instead, I think the painted underside would be a better choice.

Looks really good. Man I would love to be that far along. I say let it shine but you do it as you would like.
