on a '67 Polara 383 without pulling the motor? I need to replace the pan gasket. Can the motor be jacked up enough to do the job? Does the radiator need to come out? Any help/advice is appreciated. TIA, Dallas

You probally need to drop the center link.I unbolt them and swing it up under the K frame. Then I jack the motor up and the pan comes out.A couple of the bolts are a little tough to get to but they can be reached.Check the fan to rad clearance and shrouud if you have one.I usually raise the engine on the pulleys with a block between them. Then just weasel the pan out.Rocky

yes can it be done... need to drop the center link... myself I have done raising the engine on tranny hump with a plywood in between, to not hoist the engine from top ( I don't have the place to raise the engine with hoist )

It probably can be done with the centerlink dropped but that big fat c-body crossmember may make it hard to get to some of the front bolts. We just put the motor back in my brother's 67 Polara 383 last weekend and it was EASY to pull and re-install. If you can get a hoist it might just be easier to yank it P.S. Where you at in MO?

he's near ft. leonard wood IIRC
...and yeah, you kind of have to witness a big fat c-body crossmember first-hand to realize that it's really just going to be easier to hoist the damn thing out of there.

We did a pan swap on a 68' fury and was a real pain. Jacked the car up on stands, unbolted the motor mounts, tranny mounts, lower exaust tubes, center link, then used engine hoist to pull the motor high enough to slip the pan out. It took all day with our big, meaty pans, but it worked great and still hold the seal on the new pan.
