Don't know who this is, but car was clean. Many $$$ runs Sunday, after this, and a nice 69 Camaro losing it also, grudge runs were canceled. It was super cold once the sun went down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHVg7GqVmUI Different camera http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV_Rq8yqeNY

Why would they allow that goof in the Camaro over 40 seconds to put the top light on after the Duster? They don't enforce any starting line etiquette for grudge racing?
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

When its for $$$, etown don't get into it, more of a street race, but @ the track, it was upto the duster to do another, burnout

That's a shame about the duster, also a shame he had to wait that long. I had a mid 10 second Chevelle do that to the car in front of me this year, acted like he had a ProMod with people directing his every move, purging nitrous, revving the motor 1000 times....

That car used to race out of my shop. It was black with a Mopar Missile color scheme, then new owner bought it, painted it red with stripes. He then sold it to this new owner who i do not know. Car was one of the deadliest 9.00 cars you would ever see.It would run in the 8's, but since it was a footbrake car and our Pro class was only down to 9.0, thats where it ran. It worked excellent. What a shame. Have no idea of knowing, but looks like bad judgement may have came into play there.

Fred,
i would normally agree 100% on that with an A body, but with that car it was not the case. I have a pic of that car with the nose as high in the air as the top of the Xmas tree, and it would run straight on down the track. We adjusted everything with the front shocks. We toned it donw a bunch for bracket racing. That car didnt suffer from the typical A body geometry issues.
I dont know the new guy, maybe he was inexperienced, maybe not. just dont know. It DOES look slippery however. Whatever the cause, its too bad.

This car hit the wall also that night, a couple of races before, I think the $$$ made them stay into it, both races instead of letting go. This is video of Camaro hitting wall, but not as bad

what if anything did the long wait have to do with the crash.
Yeah, of course we can't say for sure the long wait had anything to do with the crash. That being said, I've made plenty of passes on marginal tracks in these kinds of conditions. Cold starting line, maybe some moisture condencing on the track, slicks that have had too much time to cool (maybe unevenly) sitting in one spot.
Hindsight is always 20-20 (maybe even 20-10 )

three bulbs were lit..i counted 9 seconds or so..i believe its 7 and your out.
somone mention'd he stayed in it too long. actually i feel he was trying to recover.. its hard to tell...fwiw tall gears create alot of engine braking.. if you can get the rear wheel speed back to the chassis speed you can often regain control.. i believe thats similar to what you where hearing.. same thing on the camaro...fwiw..but its conjecture at this point.
shame thats a nice duster.. cheapst

From the video.. the Duster sat with the top bulb lit for quite some time, while the Camaro was acting stupid..
What would have happened if the Duster lit the 2nd bulb instead of waiting??
Not much would have happened, but he would have gotten his point across. I would have backed out and started my whole routine over.
Most times at Etown, they WILL back the staged car back out and make both cars pre stage before any stage. But then again on this run they also did not have the auto start on like they usually do. because with the long stageing of that chevy it would have been red lighted if they did.
not really auto start doesn't start untill both top lights and one bottom bulb is lit.

This could happen to anybody.
That said problems started as soon as the front tires touched the ground. Judging by the bleacher view video the car sit low in the front.
Can't be sure, may not be the case here, but. Many times I have seen this and the top ball joint is way above the A-arm mounts. The car stands up and front end geometry goes nuts. Just because the torsion bars are adjustable doesn't make it a good idea to lower the front end. Appears the car had travel limiters on it which should have helped. Otherwise probably got out of it a little too late.
Easy to be Monday morning quarterback. Sorry it happened.
Career best 8.02 @ 169 at 3050# and 10" tires small block power.

The Chevy guy is a noob, but a red herring none the less.
This looked like a typical T&T night. the tracks do not prep the track or check the track for water, oil, etc.
As for the track personnel, what make you think they know what they are doing? For the most part, they don't unless its a big $$ event. Even then, I have had my breath taken away with some of the ignorance I have seen over the years.
Its a night time run. Below the dew point? a quick look at the sheet metal would tell you this.
I feel badly for the Duster, but if you have a 9.5 or better car, you have to deal with these contingencies.
