What kind of problems should i expect to run into putting a 383 in a 72 duster?,origanally a slant 6 car but i have the BB k member. What kind of problems mounting wise and what are the cheapest headers that will fit the set-up?

The one we did we had no problems at all and used a set of 68/69 b body HP manifolds.

When we did it no short headers were avalible. I didn't want fender wells and only had a mild build. Unless you have a radical build I'd go with the manifolds. I also had a buddy years before I did mine that had a 440 in a 67 Bcuda and he found some cheap under chassis headers. They were small tubed and unequal tube lenghts but fit pretty good. Think they were Eagle headers.

I owned one (a 1972 Plymouth Duster, Gold) many years ago (was my second car, my first was the '71 Charger, which I still own.)

The previous owner had mounted a (former) Police-Special 383 engine in it (the '72 Duster, that is.)

He didn't use the correct Big-Block/A-Body K-Member. Instead, he "made" some motor-mounts to allow it to fit (it wasn't that fantastic a job.) Also, he never dealt with the "Header" issue, as he used CI exhaust Manifolds.

When I bought the car, it came without the Police Special 383 engine. My plan was to install another Big-Block (383, 400 or 440,) so I subsequently bought a correct-for-the-swap Mopar-Performance K-Member.

After a fair amount of time and effort, I ran out of money and spare-time, so the car just sat.

Eventually, I sold it.

At the time (before I sold it,) I had planned to use Fender-well Headers with pipes that exited through holes cut in the inner-fenders, near the firewall.

Seems to me (due to the vehicle-similarity) that BigBlockDart.COM website would prove useful in forming your project.

Here is a "similar" project car, but I didn't see how he dealt with the exhaust issue:

Even Cheapie Headers are in the $200 to $400 range.

Instead, these actually fit the application (for the most part) and don't rot/rust-out in a year or two, plus thicker flanges that seal.

The price is reflective of the quality and limited sales, BUT the price really isn't all that bad when you go price a nice pair of B-body HP manifolds and a pair of head pipes. No matter what you do the exhaust winds up being a fairly expensive proposition.

Headers are the same as manifolds and head pipes, in terms of where they exit. If you want to run 3" pipe you'll want headers. So, your choice is made to fit and expensive OR made for another chassis and you modify them to fit OR a header kit that oyu make up to fit. So, really it's time or money. I usually spend the time as I have no money.
