Question for you Dodge techs; I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota with the 4.7. I need to replace the water pump because it's leaking. I would like to try and tackle the job myself. How difficult is replacing the water pump on a 4.7, and do you have any tips to make the job easier? How much stuff do I need to remove to gain access? I've replaced old school water pumps on my Mopars, but not the late models. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS MOPARTS

Never done one, but it's not nearly involved as the 2.7 by the apperarance of it.

O'Reillys Auto Parts has the new pump for $55.99 and NAPA has the new pump for $77.99. It said something in the parts description about a no sealant gasket. That's a new concept?

Anybody ever change one of these 4.7 water pumps out????

It's a dry heat
piece of cake and no bypass like on the 5.2-5.9 engines. Otherwise very similar attachement style

not much to it, go for it, very similar to 318/360 style water pump replacement, nothing like a FWD V6 thankfully.

Good luck, it's not bad at all.
